Top Swap Info and Faqs, Also lots of 3800 Info

if you happen to crack the lines twisting the ends like i did, go to napa and get a fuel line repair kit....it comes with a straight connector and 2 feet of line with a barb fitting. They are 20 bucks apiece though luckily only 1 of my lines cracked

nope, no problems with the flexplates from what ive seen and heard. you need the flexplate for the transmissions and you need the balancer for the belt system, so there arent many other ways around it. you dont use the L67 flex plate on a top swap anyway.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using a HD trans with converter, so I needed to make sure it would work. I should have probably mentioned that above...

i have an 03 Monte and i'm just curious to know if i absolutely need the 3" downpipe. Also i dont know if i missed this in any of the other threads but do i need to buy an A pillar guage mount so i can keep track of the boost or will the car be just fine without knowing exactly how much boost i'm putting out?!?

If you dont have headers, a downpipe is highly recommended to reduce knock retard(KR) you wont need a gauge to tell what psi the boost is, but there are more critical things to know(KR is probably the most important) and a wideband for tuning. Boost is different on every vehicle and doesn't do much for you other than telling you what boost level it is at. If you are going to get a gauge, consider an aeroforce as it is so versatile and can check and clear codes, and monitor several critical things( ie...coolant temp, KR, boost/vacuum, tranny temp, etc.)

also would the headers off of the stock l67 work to reduce the KR or would i have to buy new ones?!?

And when you say a wideband are you just talking about something to tune my pcm?!? If so i am having my pcm sent in to 3800 performance and they are putting the L67 top swap info onto it!!

Let me know if that will be enough or should i do some other work as well!!

the manifolds from an L67 are the same as the L36. you need that breathing room with higher compression and boost, so you for sure want that 3" downpipe or headers.

doing a top swap has nothing to do with the transmission except for the PCM needing to be tuned for it.

thanks Bio248...also on some kits they say you need to get fuel injector adaptors?!? do i need to or can i just use the factory ones on my L36?

On an 03 you're most likely going to need new injector connectors (or adapters). Different cars got switched at different times, and I don't know about the Monte specifically, but it's my understanding that all L36s switched to the Multec2 injectors well before 03.

also where would be a good place to go to buy a 3" downpipe?!?
If you are just getting a downpipe, then zzperformance has good quality and lower prices on their downpipes. Please consider aftermarket headers now to replace both your stock downpipe and your stock factory exhaust manifolds. I got my pcm tuned by 3800 performance and wished that I had gotten it custom tuned in the first place. Each car is a little different and there is no mail order tune that can nail it perferctly, but they can get it kind of close. Basically:
custom tune >>>>mail order tune>>>>>>>>>factory tune
headers>>>>>>> downpipe and powerlog(plog)>>>>>downpipe and ported manifold>>>>>>>factory downpipe and stock manifolds

thanks man i appreciate that liquifire!! also should i get the shorty, bolt in off road, weld on to cat, or bolt onto cat?!?
