• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Top Swap Info and Faqs, Also lots of 3800 Info

thanks man i appreciate that liquifire!! also should i get the shorty, bolt in off road, weld on to cat, or bolt onto cat?!?
they replace the area that the cat is and the u bend area(which will be deleted)....so get one with a cat or without(your preference) If you can weld, get the weld in one, if not, get the bolt in version.

weld?!?...yeah i can do it!! weld good?!?...ha depends!! so i'll probably go with the bolt on one! also where is the o2 sensor at then?!?

the o2 sensor is only going to have a bung for it given that you get a bolt in one with a cat. if it doesnt have a cat they wont put a bung in it because theyd assume you weren't going to run one.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^true statement. ^^^^^^ I also believe they put a bung on it if you get the catted weld in downpipe as well. And I assume that you know that we have two 02 sensors stock...one on the rear manifold collector area, and another one after the cat.

uh...yeah it does...if they're the same size!!!...are they the same size is my question!!...or do i need to buy like a 2 to 3 inch connector?!?

no connectors needed, they are built to bolt directly in...the only thing that I would recommend is putting in new exhaust gaskets with them and also having a can of PB Blast handy and also some new bolts. You might need them. Hopefully yours isnt too rusty and it is a breeze for you.

Before I start ordering more parts my roommate made me think about my whole future setup again.

I'm thinking of doing a towswap: ported blower, some sort of rockers, stock pulley, PLOG/DP, intake, with a DHP tune.

That safe enough?

yup. I'd jump for some SSAC's. they're probably cheaper than your plog/dp combo and would flow better.

DHP tune might not be good enough though. plan for a custom tune.

I would like to add in here that 06-08 Grand Prix's are limited in tuning.

As in non-existent.

HP Tuners does not support the VCM yet, and from my communications with them it's not even on their radar. I'm not sure if any other vendor supports it for that matter.

However, you can get an 05 VCM and if you have access to HP Tuners you can work with that. There are some caveats though, like how your gas gauge will read backwards. The VCM handles telling the cluster how much fuel is in there, and for whatever reason it's different on the 06-08 cars (I think it has to do with the OS). Also, if you have remote start that goes away as well since the VCM and BCM will differ in the VIN on the car.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums and new to the Grand Prix world. I just got my GP this time last year, and its also my first GM car to boot.

I have a 2005 GP, series III, L26 motor. After reading everything on here, all 8 pages, I can't really understand if I can do a top swap or not. I don't get it. First it says the SC won't bolt up to the L26, but then I realized it said the L26 heads... does this mean I can also swap over the heads as well and be fine???

I really want to do this, I'm gonna make it my college graduation present to myself this time next year. So I would like to start pricing stuff, buying parts here and there and come this time next year I can put it all together and have some fun. Thank you everyone!

yes, you'll have to swap to the supercharged heads which means youll be running a top end from an L32.

Alright two questions of which I don't think have been answered here. I'm not a complete n00b even though this may be my first post on here. Sad part is I've been a part of the GP community for over 6 years now and just heard of this site. lol

Anyway, and I promise these aren't complete n00b questions. 1) I hear of this wiring modification for the MAP sensor? What is this and why is it needed? I get the whole switch from the 1 bar to 2 bar to read boost. But if for instance I can't swap to an L67 bin due to being a pre-04 Monte Carlo what is my option here? Run it without it reading boost, how well does that work in WOT tuning?

2) With the BBV and atmosphere setup, not really following what this means here. Like what do the limbs on the booster cap vacuum tree hook up to if not to the BBV? And if the PCM can't control it, then what does?

Sorry if these have been answered elsewhere. Just trying to get my ducks in a row, and they don't seem to be answered in this thread.

1) The 2 bar map has a different connector so you have to splice that one in. The colours should match, if not, the outputs are right on the sensor.

You should be able to use the L67 bin but with reduced ignition advance.

2) The top nipple on the BBV is connected to the booster cap tree, the bottom vents to atmosphere since you'd need to buy a connector pin and the pigtail for the BBV solenoid so the PCM can control it. What this thing is designed to do is dump boost when the car activates traction control. If your car can't dump boost, you never want it to so what most top swappers do is turn off traction control all the time.

The BBV is vacuum activated so under light throttle its open to enhance fuel economy and under heavy throttle it closes so you actually generate boost.

anybody have any pictures they can post of a l67 map sensor and where im hooking this up to??? and also any pics of the BBV hooked up to the booster cap tree on there top swap....i know yes i am totally confused....and slow...im sort of a noob too but this is the only part that really has me stumped right now.
