Re: 1997 Black GTP, Gen V Lookin' Purty.

I had mine painted like that before except the ribs were silver looked good until I sprung a fuel leak and well it looked crappy and just sprayed it a solid color.. Well it's off now I stripped all what seemed like 10 layers of paint off of it and was planning to have it powdercoated to save myself the headache but looks like I'll be spraying it again.

I've done 4 of them now. I don't much like to do them but the last one I did took about 4 hours pulling into the garage to pulling out

Just curious as to why you dont have a "Member's Ride" thread about your car?

That's WAY quicker than what I did it in. I'm slow. :(

Honestly I lack patience lol. When I start something I tend to want to finish it lol and the last thing that is on my mind is taking thread worthy picture lol and because I've had the car so long I run out of things to do to it.

Maybe I'd like to see what you've done, and what the car even looks like, without a squirrel in the headlight.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Gen V Lookin' Purty.

We waited on you to do something with your exhaust tips so be patient with my members ride thread :)

1997 Black GTP, Gen V Lookin' Purty.

It may happen eventually.. Won't be for awhile though. Like I mentioned before it won't be much of a build thread because I've owned the car for ehh 6 years or so and I rarely took any picture of the varies stages so it'll be pretty much just picture of a close to finish stage since there's not much left that I would do to it.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Gen V Lookin' Purty.

Well it's official. This old girl now has a working Gen V installed.

Everything went pretty smoothly. The Gen V whines quite a bit more than my Gen III did, and is quite loud on a 3.8" with the silencer ports closed. First start up and the LTFT's look great. +/-2 at idle so no vacuum leak, which is great since I used RTV only. Gaskets are for losers. Only mistake I made all night was I installed the TPS wrong, so when I went for my first test drive, the car wouldnt shift. I was a bit nervous. :th_nervous: But then it hit me, it's probably something simple like the TPS, which it was.

The car is KR free, which is a good sign and at the peak in this cold weather, I saw 8.5psi, which is giving me hope I might be able to squeeze a 3.4" on the Gen V when I do my rocker install. :th_king-evil:

*I do also plan on removing the blower during my next oil change to take a look at the silencer ports. Just make sure the QuikSteel isn't wearing away from the heat/pressure.

Off comes the junk Gen III, Garbage. Look at all that red paint that flaked off my fuel rails :(

Sorry for the blur:

Old Vs. New:

LIM and Blower on:

Now with these nasty fuel rails on, with or without paint, I still needed some modded rails. I have to show off this blower:

Drilled hole for PCV. I tried tapping the hole with a 1/8 NPT tap, but the cheap harbor freight taps sucked and the threads came right off.

So with no tapped threads, and no fitting, I McGuyvered this. This left over vacuum tee stuck perfect in there. Put some copper RTV on the part that went into the TB, and capped off the T part, JB welded it on for confidence. BAM. Good as new:

Second Oil Change. Looks like more coolant than oil:

Sorry for the crappy picture. I'll have to get a better one tomorrow or something. It was dark outside and the flashed sucks. Anyways, here it is all finished:
