Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

The orings can fail which is why I always use RTV when doing coolant elbows.

Me, You, and Brandon did mine together in your garage, remember?

Long time ago when we did my lower intake manifold gaskets. We put RTV all over both coolant elbows.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

The only argument is that its hard to clean up the old rtv when changing them the next time. And of course whatever you use you cannot hurt the aluminum surface. I haven't tried this, but I'm pretty sure it will work. Take a rag and soak the end with brake clean, and shove that part into the tc/lim/ alt bracket and let it sit for like 10 minutes. That should soften the rtv right up and come off easily.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

the #9 pulley is for the SC serpentine. its the idler pulley that sits on its own pedestal. slightly above and to the right of the crank

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

Car still has a coolant leak. Haven't even looked at it, in a couple days.

Other news though, I got a Double Din for $40 + My stock Deck.

It's a Kenwood DDX6019. Navigation/Back-Up Camera capable, but didn't have it included. It's an older Double Din, nothing real fancy. Hooked it up to a battery and it powers right up. Inserted a CD and hooked up 4 speakers too it, it all worked like a charm. Not a bad deal for only spending $40 on it, really. Can play DVDs as well, like most Double Dins but I doubt I'll ever use it. Lol

I'll install it tomorrow most likely, and then grab a Junkyard Dash Trim Bezel and try to Modify that to fit the Double Din.

I'll eventually get the GPS antenna for it. Seen a few for sale on eBay. I think that would be a cool feature to have, but the price ranged anywhere from $100 - $200+ for it. Not going to spend that at the moment, but down the road I will.

Few pictures of it working, like I said, it's pretty simple/boring Double Din, but works great:

*Edit: Thinking about selling it, and purchasing another used one with a little bit more features. iPod Hookup/Bluetooth, etc. Something a little less "bland." We'll see though.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

well depending if I can make that work with Bose... I don't need anything fancy. Help me modify the bezel and I MAY be interested :)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

It will work with bose.

It has a lot of adjust-ability with the Sound Fx. Just nothing fancy, like seen in the pictures.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

Got the car back from the shop. Just brought it there for Diagnosis.

Ended up being exactly what I thought, go figure. Water Pump and Lower Coolant Elbow.

Like I mentioned before, my Power Steering Pump is on it's way out as well, so now is the time to replace it. Went to NAPA and got a Power Steering Pump with Reservoir, Water Pump & Gasket, New Aluminum Coolant Elbows (Again), P.S. Fluid, and Brake Clean. I get a student discount, so it all costed me $107. Not too bad.

Started working on it today. Got it torn down pretty good. Everything went smoothly, until I started having trouble with a bolt on the water pump.

As you can see, pretty moist down there by the coolant elbow:

Started taking out all the Water Pump bolts, but having a tough time with this one. These bolts are pretty lengthy, and this one just spins and spins and doesn't come out any further and when I pull on it, it won't budge. Plus this lip where the idler pulley sits on, is in my way:

Started moving on to some other bolts, and found out this bolt sits behind the Power Steering Pump Pulley. Grrrrr:

So I started to take the P.S. Pump off. Removed the return line, drained the fluid, took off the hose, started undoing on of the bolts that holds the pump onto the engine, but pretty quickly I was getting frustrated with it, and called it a day. Tomorrow I need to rent a P.S. Pump Pulley Puller, and I'll remove the pulley so it's easier to get to the bolts, remove the Pump, hopefully get some insight on the b1tch bolt on the W.P. and back together it goes.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

The pulley has access holes to get to those bolts. No need to take it off.

I'm aware, used an access hole to get one bolt out, but the other two I can't see.

The pulley needs to come off anyways, to swap over to the new P.S. Pump, just figured I could pull the Pulley off now, to make it easier to see and get too the P.S. Pump bolts.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

Just keep trying, eventually you'll find the bolt heads by feel. I use a deep well socket alone. I've done them a few times now, I know where the bolts are at and can find them by feel pretty quick.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

with the alt off you can see the bolt hole up top a bit better when you look down from the top. can be a pita the first time out.

you cant get the pulley off or on when the pump is bolted to the car, it has to come off the engine to swap it to the new pump.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

Only 2 power steering bolts 12 o clock 6 o clock

I thought there was 3, guess I'm wrong. Power Steering Pump isn't really my issue, it's the Water Pump Bolt.

Alternator and Heater Bracket is off. I can see the upper bolt just fine. Just debating whether to pull the P.S. Pump pulley off while it's still on the car, or off.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

its pretty much impossible to get the pulley off when its on the engine still. theres no room for the puller. like i said up there. lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

the long wp bolt, try vice grips on the shaft under the bolt head, then tap with a hammer or other hard object.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

Finished the job today.

- Power Steering System Flush
- Coolant Flush
- Oil Change
- New Serpentine Belt
- New Water Pump w/ Metal Gasket
- New Power Steering Pump
- Resealed both Coolant Elbows

Power Steering needs to be bled one more time, still a bit noisy.

Hopefully nothing is leaking, I took it for a couple minute drive after it reached operating temperature, and seem to stay right in-between 175 - 185. Right were it should be, but I'd like to drive it for a more extended period of time before I call this mission accomplished.

Didn't take many pictures during the install, just one. Gotta love new shiny parts!

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Double Din.

was that stuck bolt held up in there with old sealant or something?

and a metal gasket? have not seen that one yet.
