Re: 1997 Black GTP, Wheels Have Arrived!

Barely any though. ^

JB Weld here and there to patch it up, it would of been equivalent to brand new.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Wheels Have Arrived!

Car all of sudden has a bad coolant leak. Noticed it yesterday when working on the car.

It's a pretty substantial leak. Went from full in the radiator two days ago, where now I can barely see it way down in the radiator. Car hit 220* on the way home from work, which is under a 10 minute drive. It's just a constant drip. Here's some pictures I got of where I found coolant in the engine bay.

Underneath the A/c Compressor was some coolant:

And back behind the Crank Pulley. The further back ribbed portion of the Crank Pulley, where the Alternator Belt rides on was wet as well, as indicated by the arrows:

I also found a smidge of coolant on the Alternator as well. Basically, there's spots of coolant all over the belt side of the engine as it's getting flung around where it's leaking from, causing it to be a little difficult to pin-point where the leak is coming from.

My only two thoughts of where this could be coming from, is either the further back rear Coolant Elbow or the Water Pump / Water Pump Gasket.

Any ideas to help tackle this problem is appreciated.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

If you had a pressure tester, it should be easy to spot. Pump up the system and watch it spray out from the leak.

I'd just guess at the water pump.

Water pump is my first guess as well.

I do not have a pressure tester, any way these could be rented or be purchased for cheap?

I know you can rent them but I think to but one is like $100 or so.

I'm not spending $100 on that. I might just rent one, if it's offered.

Otherwise I'll be replacing the Water Pump and Gasket here soon. And the Power Steering Pump too, while I'm at it, since it's on its way out.

I'm almost positive that you can rent them I'm not sure of the price though.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

Shouldn't really matter on the price. Pay "X" amount to rent, then you'll receive a full refund if returned on time.

Well, that's how AutoZone does it.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

If not the water pump Dan, I know once I had the lower coolant elbow (the one that goes into the water pump from the bracket) spring a leak and it also dripped down in that same direction. All over the front of the engine basically. Granted yours seems more towards the front of the car.

Let me know when you do the ps pump and whatever may be leaking, haven't had a GP workout in a little while.

I was a tad off on the price. I found one at O'reillys for $60

Im just going to go to NAPA and grab a new Water Pump, Power Steering Pump, and New Coolant Elbows (Even though mine are already aluminum, but I have a '97 so the rear elbow is goofy, and sits in the head, I believe).

I'll be doing this, this weekend. Probably starting on Saturday most likely.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

Here's a few more pictures, might not help but who knows.

Had the front of the car jacked up when I was replacing the front brake pads two days ago. This is when I noticed the leak.

It's mainly all dripping from this spot, where the 4 holes are. You can see the orange on it. Not sure what that is:

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

I have rented the pressure testers from Autozone and Advanced Auto. That's how I confirmed my coolant elbows were leaking. They charge about $100 for deposit but it is all refunded when you return the tool. At Autozone, the guy behind the counter wasn't sure what I was asking for at first and he basically let me find the tool I needed by browsing through their tools on the shelf. The unit was brand new never used before.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

Dont know if this helps but the same issue happenend to my car but it was the 97 altenator bracket that was the problem switched to a 99+ with aluminium elbows and never had a issue since

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now Has A Coolant Leak.

Im probably wrong but your motor mount isn't leaking is it? I know they have fluid unless you got solid mounts, because that looks to be where it mounts to or near.
