Top Swap Help

jesus christ guys simmer down. look if you dont wanna help me fine, sorry for wasting your time. but after having your car on jackstand for a month not being able to figure out whats wrong with it, youd wanna drive it too. and i did. and if i blew some gaskets thats my problem and ill fix it. the supercharger gasket was wet when i took the blower off. cant do a pressure test because the blower is off. im gonna pull the snout off right now and see wtf is going on inside the blower. i also got my dp today. so ill be putting that on as well.

as far as my mods
wizair fwi
180 tstat
1 step colder plugs
zzp pcm
3.5" pulley
and now a 3" catless dp

hey, i wont blame you. i broke my car way too many times to count, but seriously...on a clogged cat? i would have drove the car around on an open downpipe instead of that.

idk why that pic doesnt work, it did earlier. anyways its a picture of my number 1 piston with a big chunk out of it. im gonna pull the valves out of the head for that cylinder tomorrow and see if they are bent at all from the chunk that broke out. still dont know where that piece went...it wasnt in the cylinder and it was too big to go out of the exbut you can definately see on the piston where it bounced around in there. im pulling the engine tomorrow....guess ill get some new pistons and rings now...

This mod list on an L36 shorty is why your engine blew. You only had an intake, why did you think you could run a 3.5"!? Even a 3.8" pulley was too much for you, exhaust and valvetrain mods would be needed at a minimum for even the stock pulley on that shortblock.

Just pick up an L67 from the junkyard and swap it in, will be done in a weekend. And you'll have a lighter/slightly higher stalling L36 converter with 3.29 gears (swap your L36 flexplate onto the L67, use red loctite and torque them all to spec in sequence). You'll be happy with the performance, it'll be cheaper than trying to rebuild what you have, and a lot more reliable. Live and learn, I guess, sucks it had to happen this way though.

i was told that those mods would be good for a 3.5", and a 3.8" is too big for me? that makes no sense so what you want me to do run a 4"? might as well left it n/a at that point IMO.

kfish..you do need a DP/PLOG at the least to drop below a 3.8 by most people's opinion. It is even recomended for a stock compression GTP let alone a top swapped one. Valve train would help, but not necessary to mod at this point depending on what your KR and boost levels are at.

nice! i also think you need to go to a stock sized pulley and to try and get a little more flow action going on with your motor.

Stock Pulley...GOOD TUNE...might as well port that blower while it is off too. A PLOG and that 3" Downpipe should be good for your car...it needs to breathe...ESPECIALLY with High Compression and boost.

You're right, an intake and a canned PCM are more than enough mods to run a 3.5" pulley on an L36 bottom end. I don't know what I was thinking. Oh yeah, ZZP's SSM90 kit comes with a 4.2" (maybe 4.0") pulley for mostly stock engines, maybe you should let them know they're offering WAY too big of a pulley with that kit. Your proof is right here in this thread.

Oh yeah, if you had left it n/a or used a 4" pulley, you'd still have those 3 pistons and the car would still be running.

well i give up, got everything put back together, dropped the engine in the car, start it up and she smokes, i start checkin stuff out and i pull the dipstick out and smoke is pouring out of it. car seems to run fine, no misses or anything but something definately isnt right

alright, new short block was ready yesterday, got everything put on today. tomorrow im ordering SSAC headers, and putting the rest of the brackets/pullies on. within the next week im ordering the stage 2 IC from zzp. Then its tuning time again...which i still need to find someone to do....
