Re: 2005 impala and life

Meet up with Overkill? He come back from B.C.?
Pete, you should've added a bottle or two of Lucas with that trans filter/fluid swap. It's a friction modifier and should help with the slip for now. Trans cooler would also help with that...changing you're tstat right now may not be such a good idea seeing you want to keep the tranny fluid thats running through that rad cooler.
Thats a soild car you've got, I would swap in a new trans in the spring and beat it some more!
I will add a half liter of Lucas, drove the car all day today in city and didn't slip at all so wonder if it's back to banging into gear rarely. .. i can hope lol.
No on Saturday overkill told me to meet Monday so I tried Sunday and Monday to get a hold of him but he left me stranded. ... with the thermostat and the fan settings where they are it heats up to 185 degrees.
I wanted a warmer thermostat so the car would give more heat in the winter for my newborn son.

Rockers are completely rusted out on the car and bubbles on the rear fenders... honestly starting to feel like a battle and I'm slowly losing..

Re: 2005 impala and life

I'm running a 195 with like 185 fan turn on (or whatever smuts set it at) temps stay around 186-190 cruising and the heat was melt your face hot.
Fans just run all the time but, it hasn't hurt anything yet (knock on wood).

Re: 2005 impala and life

It was mostly in the really cold winter days the heat wasnt enough, hopefully its enough now if not ill take the high speed fan relay out in the winter that should help some.

Re: 2005 impala and life

My heat is burning hot when its only 50 out or so. But at 0°f its not too great, even with the temp gauge at 197. I blame there being no recirculation button

Re: 2005 impala and life

so everyone is saying own a impala, regal or bonnevilles over a grandprix? lols.
drove the car today and banged into 1st from a stop twice today
threw in a half bottle of lucas in so will see if that helps any.

Re: 2005 impala and life

Yeah just the 2001-03 GP's I believe didn't get the recirc, all other gm does lol.

Our impala has done the slip into first twice since I did the fluid change, and that was 3 weeks ago. Not too bad I guess, but I'm still adding a half quart of lucas soon.

If your still not getting enough heat once it gets colder out hit me up here or at OQCGP, I have a DHP and can change those fan settings if need be Pete.
Wouldn't want to see you worried about the young fella getting cold while rollin in the Impy this winter.

Re: 2005 impala and life

today 10 minute drive slipped 2 times... and started hard shifting....put alot more lucas in..

that would be awesome Ill have to do that.

Re: 2005 impala and life

so threw in almost a whole bottle of lucas in and didn't seem to help for the first few days.
been a few weeks now and it doest slip and bang at all any more, never thought it would help that much do you think it may be the pressure control solenoid?

Re: 2005 impala and life

No, the Lucas will help the input sealing problem. Its meant to do things to seals, and it is thick so leakdown is slower.
Good to hear though. Our impala is at half the bottle and still has the issue. Time to add more.

Re: 2005 impala and life

so my trans is shot pretty much, it slips and bangs 90% of the time when I come to a complete stop, If i shift it into 1st gear manually while at a stop is doesnt slip/bang, works fine which I find really odd.... any idea why?

I have another trans from a 2011 lucerne with 2:86 gear ratio, will be swapping the gear to 3:29 and transgo shift kit and retune from overkill in the spring, greatest part is the trans only has 3750 miles!
