Mpg calculations

I look dumb founded when people are saying they're getting around 30 mpg highway. Now is that from the average calculation or instant mpg calculation? My average mostly stays around 15 mpg and up to 21 instant mpg on the highway.
 


I've only ever avg'd 29-31 on long trips, I'm talking like 200-250 miles before I got back home, or even on a 500 mile trip. Doing like 68ish mph with backroads.

The stickered AVG was like 22-24 or something from the factory. But If you did way more freeway than city, I could see 26-28 no problem. I've hopped in cars at work and seen mid 20's alot.


But I can say I've avg 30 mpg for that 20 mile drive up to the next city but then got 12 in town, so I was right for a little bit. :)
 
Lots of small things add up.

Be it needing a tune up, dirty MAF sensor, old o2 sensor, brakes dragging, the type of tires you are running, alignment being out etc etc.
 
when my car was stock it got worse mpg. im up 4 mpg since the tuning has began. my local avg is up to 17- 18, up from 12-14.

highway it will see high 20's to 30.

if all your maint is up to date, a tune could help.
 
What kind of tune? I thought about getting an intense pcm or finding the cheapest tuning software I can
 


canned tunes seem to be hit or miss for some. every car is different.

im using DHP and eddies table modifier thingy. so far all ive really done is installed 05 gp timing and some maf tuning.

i got a top swapped engine im dropping in soon, so ill be starting all over once again soon.


they sell a avt box for like 265, theres a few threads that cover it, it works with dhp. dhp is free to use now, so once you own the box and cables its fully yours to use.

What size security torx bit holds the mass air flow sensor in place? I want to remove it, but don't want to buy a whole set that I'll use once. Guy on YouTube used pliers, is that recommended?
 


you can cut a slot with a hacksaw in the bolt head or use a thin blade grinder then use a flat head screw driver.

when i do send out pcm, being im not a tuner, i delete codes as per the buyer, and install a trans tune set the vin# and such.

if you were closer i could do a in car tune. thats easy enough to do.

55 shipped. what year are you? im down to one pcm left, its for a 01 to 03. it wont take a older year for some reason. i cant try again tho if your car is older.
 


no dice. it wont take it. if you want to ship me a pcm we can work some thing out.


other then that reptile maybe your best best for a cheap tuned pcm.

09361735 should work. the first one would be preferred. can come from a n/a car too, same pcm.​

funny my pcm list dont list the park ave, but every 2000 car on th elist uses that pcm part #. so it should be good to go.

you can also look at the part # on your pcm, its on the sticker on it.
