• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Mpg calculations

if your going to the junk yard, buy the air box with the pcm inside it still, shhhhhhh, you pay for a air box only.

and as long as your hitting the jy, ill make a trade with ya, i need 5 obd2 port plugs, id do a straight up trade for the plugs, you just pay the shipping both ways for the pcm.

you can put them plugs in the air box with the pcm. its what i did last time out. i just need as much wire off the plugs as possible.

Or just grab set of security torx bits for $5-8 or so from Harbor Freight

But I'd never use them again, that's why I'm not looking to buy them. The hacksaw idea is good because it's free and it allows me to remove the mass air flow sensor anytime I want.

im just passing on learned tricks that were passed on to me. a air box runs like 12 bucks, pcm's they like to charge more for them.

how i got the last two i picked up at the yard, bought two air boxes. stuffed the off board parts inside and left the pcm inside too.

then i was able to sell one air box to some local guy, and i gave the other one to bill, im sure that was in the cars trunk as it was sold today lol.

I was just messing with you man haha :)

Lol I'm not going to speak on my recent trip to the yard were someone told on me to check my pillow case full of tools.

From Dayton Ohio too Central Michigan with just a tune I averaged 33mpg in my GT manually calculated. My normal commute I see 25-26.

With no tune, a ZZP 3" catted downpipe, and a homemade intake I averaged 28mpg on a trip from southwestern PA to Norwalk, OH.

On the other hand on a trip from southwestern PA to Richmond, VA I only got about 23 mpg.

Those differences were a result of terrain traveled, as well as wintery temps and winter blend fuel. The trek to Norwalk is almost flat, the trek to VA has many long large hill climbs that suck the fuel down.

Lately I have been getting about 29MPG highway:
- Stock NA 3800 with 180k+ miles
- Driving 60-62MPH and drafting (reasonable distance) whenever feasible
- Commute is about 75 miles each way - lots of highway
- Cruise Control as much as possible
- Slow acceleration, long slowing distance before exits & stops, early braking at redlights, etc.
- I use 215/65/16 instead of the stock tire size, an inflate to 4PSI over recommended pressure
- I measure by the odometer and reading on the gas pump. On other GM cars I have found the DIC reads incorrectly, always indicating better MPG than I'm actually getting.

During the winter I was getting 23-24 (same highway commute) for a variety of reasons, including driving about 72MPH.

If I drive at 72MPH instead of 62MPH, my MPG drops by about 2, even though I'm careful not to drive more aggressively when I drive faster.

I got 28.3 MPG Saturday on a 360 mile trip each way. The first 180 miles were interstate running between 75-80. The other half were 2 lane roads in the boonies running 60-70. I would have liked to have filled up with ethanol free gas before leaving but the station that sells it wasn't open whenever I left.
