J57ltr's 05' GTP wrecked again.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

PCM in his year wants to monitor the circuit. the second you put a diode in.. it can't watch everything and it's code time.

How about removing the fault code for the fan circuit and keeping the setup you have ? Control and no light. :th_thumbsup-wink:

And....

for what it's worth, let's pretend that I had a fan control on Bonnie (did w/o setting a light FYI, but 97 wasn't as much of a control freak). You'll find that if it were programmed to whatever your temps, you'd be happier than flipping a switch.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

I don't know how often it is monitored. I need to look back and see if I can use a different diode or parallel diodes. It's been such a long time since I've studied them.

Edit: I am going to try a Schottky diode as the biasing voltage is only .3V instead of .7V which may make it a little easier. I wish I had a PCM schematic of the output section. The only way I can see them measuring the circuit is measuring the voltage drop on that line. It's a PNP output, so that's the only way I can see it monitoring it. I thought about removing the diode and came up with the PCM would detect a short to ground on the circuit and give me the same error code. I have another trick up my sleeve that I think will work, just need to work out the switching......without relays.

Bill when I get a tuner I'll remove the code. I keep buying other parts that keep popping up and my AVT fund keeps getting farther and farther behind. And I am a gauge watching, switch flipping kind of guy.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

I'm wondering if disconnecting the battery would help. This morning on the drive in it was SOOO cold, I think it was in the mid 40's. The temp never came up past 188 until I came into some traffic. I let it get to 200, but as soon as I started moving a little it dropped back to 190. I parked at work and let it come up to 217 by the time the fans start cooling it is at 221-222 and let the fans run through their cycle and brought the temp to 206. When the temp started to rise again I kicked on the fan and brought it down to 190, the app informed me of a pending fault code, about the middle of the forced fan on. I shut the car off and went in. Just an FYI. Going to pick up some Shottkies on the way from a service call this morning.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

A suggestion.. since it's winter and you are getting the temps that we see in the summer.. maybe hold off and plan that you'll have a tuner come broiling season?

Because honestly.. all your items could be covered by one quick hit.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

Suggestion noted, I still like manual control for the hell of it. When I get a tuner I will adjust the fan temps. Once I get the proper ducting in I should be able to roll about 30 mph or so without the temp climbing.
right now it's pretty easy on the cooling system but it'll get back in the mid 80's at least a few more times. Nothing like running the AC and fireplace during Christmas.

***** let me know when the temp is -20 without windchill.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

It sucks that most of the customers we have are in the north and want service between October and March. So I get to see your cold, I just wanted to rub it in a little. It's Tshirt weather down here.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

How'd you bend the barrel?

I was not aware that the center of the rim was called the barrel. I called Wheels America, they fix rims and can fix some really nasty rims, but if the barrel is bent they can't do anything with it, it's toast. So I went to the JY today looking for a bumper foam support dealeo and happened to walk past a N* Caddy and couldn't believe my eyes. So I picked it up for right about $50 including removing the old tire.

I'm pretty happy about it there were a ton of 89-03 cars and 4 unmolested L32's even had an 02' Bonnie SSEI with the L67. But no luck on a 97'.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

Lol, you do not want my luck. I have had the stove, washer and Fridge all go out within a week, luckily I got them all fixed, but I always have stuff braking around here.

Then today I took my car in to have the rim changed and they said the tires I bought in July on the front are to low and need to be replaced. I don't even do burnouts, but when I had the wheels aligned after buying new tires it seems that bent rim caused the alignment to be off. I am going to take it in and have it checked again. To top it off they told me that the tires I bought have a 0 mile warranty, so basically I am screwed. The guy that sold them said they were good tires, the guy installing them said they were junk. Now what?

Was that the LKQ off Nordling?

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

Northville, yes. Used to be Pick-a-Part a few years ago.

Jeff

I had quit going there because they tried to screw me the last few times I was there. Those stands under the car are a dead giveaway. I started going to the place off of 249, but I have toyed with trying that place again.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

What did they try to screw you on? They have the prices listed on the website. Hell a supercharger is $93.

what place off of 249? There are like 20 of them and I know a lot of them don't let you walk the yard.

The prices changed because I was white. It happened to me a couple times and the same with a few friends. My buddies who are not white got much better pricing for the same parts when we would go together.

The last straw was getting a Ford Taurus cooling fan. I was in the back section. There was a line. Hispanic guy 3 people in front of me with a mint Lexus GS400 bumper cover in silver. The guy running the counter chatters in spanish with the guy for a minute, then tells him "4 dollars". They guys pays and walks. I am thinking I missed some sale. Next guy same thing. Didn't notice what happened with the guy right in front of me. I get up there. $140 for a used fan. The wiring pigtail is in bad enough shape that the insulation is cracked and falling off exposing bare wire. I point out it should be $40 per the sign. He tells me it is because it is a "nice" fan, it has a shroud (all 1 piece and couldn't be separated), fan blade (part of the fan), and had the wiring (only the pigtail that went into the fan motor and could not be removed) so it cost more because I was actually getting so many pieces. need less to say I launched it back into the yard and watched it break into pieces and it landed on the roof of a car nearby. This had become a typical experience there. Many of the local car forums I am on had similar experiences and most of us just stopped going because it was a waste of time.

The place on 249 used to be off of Sellers on the other side of 45 and was stupid cheap. They have standardized prices since they moved and grew, but are still pretty fair. They just don't always have what I want. They also have their guys roaming the yard picking cars clean before the weekend which can get real annoying. They almost never set a car out with wheels on it that aren't steel. A couple months back I scored a set of GXP wheels on half price weekend. While I was in line to check out several guys were getting chewed out and yelled in a foreign language while they pointed to my cart. I am guessing they intended to put those on CL or Ebay or something for a lot more than I paid :th_laugh-lol3:

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

Weird, I usually make sure to go to the males when they are at the window and I guess I look Mexican enough to get the discount. I have been charged higher prices by some of the females, but I ask for pricing before I get parts usually. I pulled a 04+ SC off last during the thanksgiving 40% off sale, but the coating wasn't perfect so I left it. What was funny was a white dude in front of me was talking to the girl at the window in Spanish and was she was speaking to a coworker in English, but he kept speaking Spanish. My little brother said something to me and I was like watch out when I was in Mexico I ran across a ton of guys that looked white but spoke only Spanish. I was especially disappointed when I went to order at Dominos Pizza and the kid behind the counter had blond hair and green eyes. I started speaking English and he was like que? Damn 15 days down there and only my boss spoke English.

Ill have to try that yard I haven't been to any of them in years because they wouldn't allow you to walk the yards.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP base model

So now I went in to a friends new shop to have my alignment again and found that there wasn't any work done to my car. All the splined bolts that hold the struts (shocks/whatever) to the knuckle had never been removed since the car had them replaced and I ended up getting a full set of the little offset cam bolt dealeos. The alignment was horribly off like -1.8* left rear camber and +8.59* on the right side camber. The rear partial toe was -.01 and the right was +.22 and the thrust angle was -.11*. We spent pretty much all day aligning the thing. My friend stated that he usually gets it into the green and lets it go. I wanted everything perfect so we spent the time to do it exact. I did a lot of the wrenching and had a hell of a time with the machine losing connection with one of the sensors and having to start all over at least a dozen times.

I ended up having to slot the Drivers side front strut holes to gain a little more caster on that side. We got the alignment done and nothing is out more than .02*. We got done late about 9pm so my buddy still has the printouts and I am going to go up there next weekend and recheck and see about this tire situation. The last guy to do the alignment I got a print out, but I think it was fake and since I had a bent rim that should have showed up when he was checking the runout on each tire when he set the machine up I would think. Then there is Discount that should have known the rim was bent. I am not sure who to blame, other than myself for not taking it to Vernon anyway. I am super pissed though that I have 5 month old tires that are worn smooth out. It boggles my mind that the car ran straight down the road before as many red boxes as I saw when we started.

What to do what to do.
