J57ltr's 05' GTP wrecked again.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Now with Moar...KR?

Lol, well when I put my foot in it's ass it seems to straighten up after a few minutes it's just crazy that it only seems to do it when I let it idle and get up into the 180* range. If I just start the damn thing up it doesn't do it.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Now with Moar...KR?

So what have you seen cause it on 97's? I haven't done a CASE relearn on the car yet, now I'm running my original PCM so I would think it's already synced up.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Now with Moar...KR?

97 are that bastard year. they got a knock module on the pcm and stuff. they got kr just driving normal down the road sometimes.

crank learn cant hurt. timing chains wear some tensioner too. you got a dhp right? takes 5 seconds to do one.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Now with Moar...KR?

Yeah I have DHP, I saw it and thought about it, just didn't figure it would do anything. I'll give it a try, but it could be weeks before it does it.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Now with Moar...KR?

mine had no light or nothing funny, but it ran smoother after the case learn for sure.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, playing with tuning.

So I'm finally getting to the point where I wanted to change some things in the transmission and go back over the changes I had made with the torque abuse mode. I ended up with of several .bin files that are from other people and companies to kind of see what they have done. Some of this stuff looks ridiculous like shift times that are .01 seconds and pressures of 110 psi and just some really crazy things. I decided that I would lower my shift times.

1-2 was .33 stock I changed to .23
2-3 was .35-.2 stock and I changed them to .2 second.
3-4 I left alone I don't ever plan on running WOT into OD.

For the shift pressure raised it slightly. I don't have performance shift, but I wasn't sure so I changed both Performance and Base to the same level.

2nd Base and performance I raised by 10% at first and drove it around for a while and then changed it again and am at 21% any value that was more than 96 psi I reduced to 96.

3rd base and performance I did the same and ended up at 21% as well.

4th I left alone.

The transmission shifts a lot nicer now it's pretty crisp and doesn't have that huge lag it had before. At light throttle it's as easy as can be but shifts more quickly. I have driven it about a week like this and am pretty happy with those changes.

I have noticed that the idle always seems a little higher than it needs to be so I lowered it from 675 down to 600 in gear and 650 out of gear. I just did that the other day and it idles really nice and smooth so I may leave it like that. I did start to think about pumping water and the load of the fans on the alternator so I think I will up the idle back to stock once I reach where the fans will kick on, right now it's not an issue, but when summer comes I may notice the temp rise again. We'll see I guess.

I want to mess with the TCC next but I am going to have to digest some information first on the when and how much and all that.

One of these days I will figure out what's going on with my phantom KR but it hasn't come back in a week or so.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, playing with tuning.

So I got a wild hair Friday and picked up some 1X1X 1/8" wall square tubing. Had a lot of extra 1/4X1" flat bar at the shop so I decided to make a couple of those strut to core support braces. The one over the battery has been missing since I got it. Here's the material as received then as stages as I finish and fab them.

It's cool to see people making their own stuff. Nice work!

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, playing with tuning.

90 is a good transmission pressure, and the trans won't shift faster than .0125. My pe kicks in at 35%. I think under 100 trans pressure is good

Welding them up.

Finished welding.

I didn't really get any of the grinding and polishing but here's the end result. Now I have to do something about the engine compartment, and get some better bolts.

Those look great! Do you plan on making a front strut brace as well?

Thanks, I'm not sure I wasn't even planning on making these it just kinda happened. I think I have enough material left to make one though.

Thanks Jared, I like making my own parts, it's just easier that way sometimes. Now I think Aaron has me thinking about a strut tower brace....

PS: Don't mind the stickers they have been on the car since I got it. Anyone that knows me knows stickers are for toolboxes.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Made SST crossbraces for some reason

They did come out pretty good. I like em! I dig the Spectre sticker, lol. STB would bring it all together...

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Made SST crossbraces for some reason

Thanks! I was just out in the shop checking it out. Looks like I have enough I had only bought a 6' piece. I will need to figure out how I want the mounts I might see if I can have some laser cut next time we make some 3/16 material parts. Luckily everything we do is in 300 series stainless. either that or I will just make some plates. I don't know whether to have an adjustment in them. If that's the case it would be easier to make it out of round thick wall tubing instead of square.

Re: J57ltr's 05' GTP, Made SST crossbraces for some reason

The adjustment would be for preload, I do pretty well with measuring.
