My dad dug the big galv pan out so I just used that. It worked out well. While waiting for the fluid to drain, I had to hold it up there cuz the wind was wanting to blow it everywhere.
I was having a hard time with a flat blade and hammer, didn't wanna hurt the surface or anything so I just left it. New one fit very well so I'll just go with it for now.

I'm glad it was easy. Feels good to be able to do it myself.

Glad to see you doing your own work. It is a good feeling when you dive in the first time, makes for good bonding time with the car too.

Most likely she's pretty much done. Maybe wheels when its paid off, but Idk.
 
Yes I did. Dealership even looked too. It is in fact the oil pan.
But, its expensive ($355 just in labor and another $100ish in parts). I only got a quote from them, so Idk what anyone else is going to say.
They did say oil pan was bent and offered a new one but wasn't a must...I didn't remember such dent. So when I was under there Sunday I looked and couldn't find a "dent", it was more like the one end was ever so slightly raised on the inside...could barely feel it. Idk how sensitive these things are to bends/dents if it does need replaced. Couldn't get it to show up in pic.
But they wanted $191 for one which I thought was bologna.
I later found them.for way cheaper on eBay doing a quick search.

They did double check and make sure the bolts were all tight. It's 'soaked' again and only been what, 1-2 weeks?
They thought it'd been leaking for awhile but I didn't tell them I had recently cleaned under there.

I am not even going to try tackling it and boyfriend said no on his end either because of having to drop frame and or move engine.

So.... How urgent is this? Can I just let it go? It never seems to need oil. And it did just get oil change, so if done it wouldn't be till next time around anyways since a change is needed at the time anywyas, and I'm cheap.
 


Just run some duct tape around the pan and it'll be good lol j/k j/k

When I had our tech at the shop put in my 2nd engine, we replaced the oil pan gasket because I didn't want to have to worry about leaks, he said the pans were very sensitive to leaks on the 3800s and most did a little, never hurt anything but they seep out. He said if there was any spot along the pan that wasn't perfectly flat the oil pressure would allow it to leak out a little over time, most people never noticed it. After that I started looking at car on the lifts and most of the 3800s that come thru for oil changes and maintenance has leakage around the pan.

If it gets bad &/or noticeable, I would look into replacing, other wise just keep an eye on it.

They quoted me $600. just for labor said could not do it myself because I need something called an oil pan trolly to get it off. I said "I lose a quart about every 3,500 miles which is when I usually change the oil so thanks but no thanks"

That is interesting to know. I would def find a used/cheaper one. I'm not paying $200 for a pan.
I never notice any level changes. There is maybe a nickel sized spot after work everyday. You can tell which spot is mine.
But every single bolt had oil hanging from it when I looked on Sunday, so I'd imagine that's enough to look like a lot.

I'm not trying to be cheap, that's just expensive for me right now and it needs other repairs.

I wish duct tape would fix it :(
 
I'd just drive it and check the oil once a week or so whenever you fill it with gas. The dents shouldn't matter. I dented my pan up when i did my motor mount and the car hasn't complained at all about it.

Yes, this....would it help? I could clean it again and dry it off and try this if its worth a shot.

I have blue rtv. What is the difference?

Or ill just say effff it and keep an eye on it.
I did check trans and it may need topped off a bit. I'll check it again tomorrow.
 
Btw the oil pan is a pain in the ass to do with the engine in the car.

Both mounts have to be removed below, and the 2 on top to get it out.

It's probably just the gasket, relatively common. I've done quite a few. And there's an actual gasket on your model year. I would gob silicone on it to "fix" it. I'd just spend the day doing it right!
