2002 Impala: On it's way

left naioa and came here I see! bout time lol.
No you video doesn't work.

Lol no, I just can't handle multiple forums at the same time it seems. I'm part of three and every now and then I get really involved in one that I forget to check the others because I'm so busy with school and work. But thanks for reminding me, I got the lsx grille that was for sale!

Walked outside and saw this today

The white 03 and impala are mine. Imagine if I had my gtp there too lol w-body fest!

Anybody watch the exhaust video? What do you think?

I park like that because those spots are reserved for me and they're not the biggest spots so I want to prevent door dings as much as possible. So yes I did park bad lol.
And thanks, I think the exhaust sounds good. I'd like to get some drive by videos but I don't have a camera or enough room on my phone to record very long. I honestly don't know what it sounds like from the outside when I'm driving

It's because of idiots like this that I park that way:

And I think I've decided to downgrade the stereo and cancel the future stereo plans. I'd like to get more into performance. I haven't really ever looked into that.

I gotta start looking into performance parts and the major decision: How much am I gonna get into this. Because that determines if I wanna do a swap or not. In the next couple years I really dont see myself spending more than a couple thousand dollars. What do you all think or suggest?

It's been running pretty hot lately. Says low coolant but it's not low. In traffic it runs at this temp all the time and gets up a couple marks higher. It was just flushed last year.

It used to run around a quarter or 3/8 at the hottest

LIM gasket is probably leaking being that it's a 3.4 You could just unplug the sensor on the rad so you don't have to see that message if you wanted to.

Yeah the lim is stock still. Looks like maybe the upper intake manifold gasket leaks a little too. Do you happen to know where that sensor is located?

If you look at the rad cap on the outside of the rad about 6 inches down from that is that sensor.

Impala looks cool and i like those rims. Im thinking about getting these body style impala's, the SS though. Hard to find and im looking into the new 2012-2013 Impala with the 3.6 300hp. Still great car, give you any problems maintenance wise?

Yeah the only impala I'd buy would be an 04-05 ss or a new one. I like the looks of the new ones, but I wish they made it on a longer wheelbase so there was less overhang in the rear.
Honestly it has really given me no maintenance problems and I haven't really kept up on it. 113k miles and it's still on stock plugs, wires, fuel filter, ect. Aside from the cat, I've replaced nothing for the need of it.
That being said I do need to do general mainenance to it so I've decided to sell off some audio. I've tried to get the fuel filter off but it's too rusted. I gotta take it in and bite the labor bullet.
I'd really like ideas of what to do for performance. I've been itching to get into forced induction. I think the biggest downfall by far is the gearing tho. I love driving my 03 gt solely for the fact that it drives so much better with the different gearing. Granted its at like 2k rpm at 60-62 and my impala is somewhere around 1600-1700

I think Turbo would be the best thing to do for forced induction. A buddy of mine on this thread has a blue 04 LS who is on a build list of doing Turbo. I'm not sure but ive heard a shift kit may help the gearing be better, not sure but just throwing it out there.

So it sounds like its pretty reliable, ill look for the SS but i cant seem to find any around here the 04-05. Also ya i like the look of the newer ones, that's why im looking at getting the 2012-2013 Impala. It has good V6 engine, pretty good power and MPG, and a better transmission.

Are you talking about Grimsin? I didn't know he was looking at going turbo.
I don't know that these model of impala's are that reliable in general. A good handful have the security lock out problem, but all the other problems like transmission are just like gp's. It's kind of luck of the draw. My girlfriend's parents had an 02 LS and it was just a lemon. Mine has done the security lockout maybe 2-3 times, but luckily not recently.

It seems like there's not much potential for the 3400 from what I see. I mean if I couldn't make 250hp for a couple grand I don't think its worth it.
Even turbo I'm not sure about potential.

Here's what I want out of it:
-Reliability: I drive it everyday, in traffic also
-Not horrible gas mileage, driving lightly I'd like to still get in the low 20's ave, now I average 26
-More torque: I hate that I can't get up hills without downshifting unless I'm going 70+

I'm getting an hp tuners so we'll see what I can do for tuning with it now.

I don't drag race, there's not even a track on the island anymore. I don't street race either. I wouldn't mind being able to keep up with some decently quick cars, but I also want more power for better driveability. I'm more into cornering quick so suspension mods will probably be in the near future.

I'll be honest, I've always wanted a lopey idle. So cam would be nice in whatever I decide to build.

But I'm still at the point where I don't know what direction would be best. What do you guys think would be best out of these options?
1.) turbo 3400
2.) built 3800
3.) turbo 3800
4.) supercharged 3800

Or my long time dream, a 5.3. Just haven't seen anyone pull it off without having to basically put the body on the new drivetrain and electronics and interior

Oh i forgot, you got a 3400 my bad. Ya Grimsin is planing on turbo but forgot he got the 3800 lol.

Hey for me i like to drag race so thats why, i know about the tranny but hey it is a hit or miss with them. Im also looking for everything you said easpically good MPG thats why im looking at the newer impala's cause of the 300hp V6 get 30mpg highway. Either way good luck with the car bro.
