2002 Impala: On it's way

Well for now I guess I should put the money into maintenance on this engine, even tho I feel like its a waste if I may want to do an engine swap.

I got an HPTuners today. Gonna do a lot of research and then start trying to tune it.

I've been doing a lot of searching on the ls4 swaps. I'm gonna go for it once I find a donor car locally, which who knows when that will be. I'm still researching and trying to figure out how the electrical will work. I don't want to swap the dash and cluster from the donor car so idk at the moment how that will work

Nice, im hoping to get the impala the newer ones but it looks like i might be only able to get a car thats like less than 5k.

Well idk if you can find a decent newer impala for that price. You could find a decent 2000-2005 body style, but with that money I'd probably go with something else

I was planning forced induction last year, but the car has turned into a high mileage daily driver that gets 1100km a week put on the odometer :th_crying1: and now that winter has gone I did a thorough cleaning and found rust popping up on a door so now any money that was going into mods has now switched to paint job/body work money.. that will make the car last another 2-3 years, I love the car but the older she gets the more It takes to keeping it in reliable condition(like any car)
The new model impala only get 30 mpg highway? jeez my car gets more then that..

I probably put 250 miles on a week. I figure once the drivetrain starts needing repairs it would be smart to just have a swap ready. The body is in good condition still, just a few tiny spots of surface rust on the bottom inner front fender lip. I hope it doesnt spread being that it doest have salty winter roads to drive on :th_laugh-lol2: You'd think with the salt water out here rust would be bad but I hardly ever see cars with rust here.
When I lived in Iowa I was gettting 35-36 highway. One time it turned out to be 40 but I don't believe it lol. Here, I get stuck in a lot of traffic and don't really have a lot of just highway driving and I average 26. I bet the newer impala's get better than 30 hwy because it's not like mine was rated for 35 hwy lol but gets it. I still have the window sticker for my impala, it's rated at 29 hwy and 19 city with a 22 combined. Obviously that's wrong unless your driving with a led foot. I'd assume if the newer impala's are rated at 30 then they probably get 35-37

Ya the newer one could get more than 30 MPG pretty sure of that if you drive it right. But it would get less than your guys Impala since maybe cause it has more power like 100HP more, or probably because it might be heavier.

Idk how much more power they have but I know it's quite a bit more. I think the weight is about the same. Idk the final drive ratio of the new one but I think mine is something ridiculous like 2.86. Good mpg but bad performance

That sounds like an awesome powertrain although don't like the higher power band. I'd be happier with torque down low.
IMO, I'd rather have 300ft/lbs at 2500 than 300hp at 5000

Ya thats true its like 300hp in like 5600 RPM. Still a pretty quick car though and a guy on the impala forum has done a tune to the car. He did it him self using HPtuners and he said it really woke up the car and it when he accelerate, it ACCELERATES. So ya pretty much he got good luanch and gained some torque and HP i believe.

I dont think so, the 3.6 to the 3.8? Id just keep that 3.6, i think it makes more power than the 3.8. Stock that is.

Oh i dont know on that, would be pretty cool to do. But i think the 3.6 is a completely different engine, i dont know if it would be doable.

3.6l v6 with 300hp mated to a 6 speed auto tranny, but I hear all the power is in the high revs.

I can attest to that. I had one as a rental and its rev happy. I'd say it moves pretty good once you get going.

^^^ Like he said ya same engine in the newer camaro, but the camaro is puting out like 20 more HP.

I so badly want that Impala, even if i cant do much mods for it just a Intake, Exhuast, and Tune will do. And then later on doing Turbo, if anyone is able to pull it off. Imagine that a FWD Impala with already 300HP getting T/C, im sure the 6 speed trans can handle the power better than the weak ass one on the older w-bodys. That impala would haul ass.
