2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE (LOTS OF PICTURES)

Today I had a bit of fun working on the car. I removed the driver side door and all of the guts in it. (wiring harness trim etc.) I was super fortunate that the replacement door was the same color as the car. (Not that it much matters, the cars getting completely repainted)

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

This photo, the replacement door is being rebuilt. Notice the junkyard writing on the glass.

Today I started the install of the GT/GTP ground effect door trim. I got these parts a few weeks ago from a junkyard. The idea was that this would be a big deal. Well for the most part it isn’t. You just have to take your time. Here is how it going so far:

Ok this was a slow week for the GP. It was one of them two steps forward one step back. At this time I still don’t have all of the side skirts on the car yet. Why you might want to ask yourself (If you cared) because they got broken in the test fitting stage.
I’ll show you folks where things stand as of right now.

Where I left off at, I was test fitting the side skirtsto the car. Being this is an SE it does not have predrilled holes from thefactory. Once I got things about where I think they should be. Drilling andinstalling the mounting brackets happened. Then repairs to the parts the longerlower rocker panel, skirt, thingamabob, whatever they are called.

Unfortunately, when we were trying to do last test fits the rocker panels parts things, cracked again. So they are still being fixed. Maybe later this week I’ll get them installed. No matter, I took another trip to the local junkyard today. I went there for rear wheel well liners. On SE’s the bumper cover isn’t as deep as a GT-GTP bumper cover, so when you install a GT cover on one. It flops around behind the rear wheel. It’s not a big deal as long as you get the wheel well liner the ties all the parts together. You see Pontiac installed the attaching point for the GT bumper but installed the SE for this car. Ill show Pictures tomorrow after I install them.
Then I ran across this car in the yard:

I too noticed the factory strut support. I read somewhere on this forum that a stock one from a regal would fit. So I got it. took a couple of shots to make sure i knew what i was doing and.....

Get another one if you can off of a Monte, Impala, or Regal. Then you can drill out one of the holes on each side a little bit bigger and it'll fit right over the rear strut bolts. From there if you want 2 bolts per side, use one of the original brackets that held the brace down in the impala\monte\regal and cut it in half. Remove rear strut, drill hole, then reassemble withe the extra bolt in the hole you drilled.

Definitely put another Strut Tower Brace on the back as well. Will make a difference.

Car is coming along nicely. Cool to see someone properly working on a SE and making it look nice.

After all the good work you've done so far, it just isn't fair to the car to have the 3.4L engine. You can pick up a used L67 for dirt cheap and put in there.

Last weekend I picked up a pair of really good condition taillights out of the junkyard. Today I went to the local car parts store and picked up a can of lens tint. (Think the price was 14 bucks for a can) I believe it turned out really good. What do you folks think?
BTW don’t hate me because there’s no snow and was in the mid 70's today. So it was a bit chilly. It’s all about location location ... location

It is coming together nicely. Can't beat 70 degree weather. It's 80 degrees here in So Cal so I can relate.
