Re: 1997 Black GTP, Tune Up Almost Finished.

to get that injector out, just twist and pull it. it will pop out. its only the O ring holding it in there, just like the lower 1/2.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Tune Up Almost Finished.

you gotta tug just a little harder Dan. just hold the whole injector with your hand and pull like mad. A little twisting is good. I can't believe you took the rail off and didn't swap an injector that was kinda the point lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Tune Up Almost Finished.

Yes sir, it was in there. i pull it out and put it back on the injector.

Your so smart

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Tune Up Almost Finished.

I pushed the two injectors in so hard that I switched around. Made sure they were in tight. Also started the car, checked for vac leaks and no fuel leaking. Were good.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Tune Up Almost Finished.

You are becoming quite the mechanic dan. Now you can do your lim next right?

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Tune Up Almost Finished.

YAY now Dan can do some wrenching and Brandon can finish more than 2 beers finally. LOL jkjk I enjoysss ittt

Ive met some smart people on this forum and they are always here to help me, ive learned alot from people here.

I just figured if i want to learn how to do it myself, you just have to go for it. Im impressed how much ive learned from this damn website

Bet that Dan gets his done before Josh does.

Honestly, i bet i could now do my lim on my own. With someone next to me for guidance incase i get stuck, but i think i got it down truthfully.

Injectors are on their way, should have them by Monday.

Awesome. Thanks man.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Tune Up Almost Finished.

Went up to josh's house saturday. Hooked up the Aeroforce to see what the car was doing.

Long Trim: 16.4 - so obviously i have a vacuum leak somewhere. Changed all the Vac lines and checked everything and still sitting at 16.4, so josh believes i must have really bad LIM gaskets creating my Vac leak.

Now for the big one, KR. 1st pull, car saw almost 0 KR through 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. So we did another pull, and at the top of second i hit 7* of KR and the car actually stuttered. Did another a 3rd pull and once again, at the top of second the car hit 6.5* of KR and stuttered (power loss) once again. We believe one of two things (and remember my car is completely stock besides intake)

1: i have bad motor/trans mount causing my car to read false KR
or
2: my trans is slowly going out because i would hit high KR right before it shifted. So the heavy load of WOT right before it shifts is causing my KR

We also tried to install the black VC i have but didnt have a deep enough socket so after putting on the tensioner pulley back on and the belt, it now squeeks like hell. I can hear it from inside the car and obviously it gets louder as the engine revs higher, any ideas why it squeeks so loud?

Now onto the actual update:
Today i decided to paint my fuel rails and while i was at, i get new injectors from a member on her so i decided to put those in while the fuel rails were off.

I used 4 of the new injectors and 2 of my original ones:

Cleaned them all:

Briefly cleaned around the LIM:

After i put everything back together, one of my front injectors was leaking fuel bad, took it all off again, pulled the injector and saw the little o-ring that sits in the fuel rail was ripped, replaced it with a good and then no more leaking, thank god.

After everything was installed again, my car was running fine and then after about 2 minutes of idling the cars RPM's started to go crazy and then it stalled. Re-started the car and it took about 5 seconds to finally turn over - odd, but it hasnt happened since

Drove it up the store, Beat the piss out of it, multiple WOT pulls and she pulls strong with nothing wrong it seems like UNTIL i put the car in park then the cars RPM's bounce about 150 above & below normal idling range. After it bounces a few times it finally smoothes out, no reason why it does this but other than that, everything is good.

Car is still sending P0131 code but thats it, so obviously it doesnt like the new o2 sensor i put in and still giving my poopy MPG, so when i get paid next, im going to buy a Bosch o2, so i know forsure it will work. then after that hopefully no more codes for awhile

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR

1. Its possible your mounts may need to be changed but its not the only cause to having KR.

2. That makes no sense lol. High rpms with STOCK manifolds, stock everything else are a leading cause of KR, the trans has nothing to do with that. It's possible at those rpms that the car isnt getting enough fuel and thus you get spikes of KR.

Seeing 5-7 kr on a stock car is not uncommon.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, I Like KR

We have no idea why the car hit 7* KR but josh just though maybe its caused from the trans? i dont know. Just brain storming.

Actually seeing the car have power loss was a bit scary.

Thinking about switching to Poly mounts to clear up and engine/trans movement.

FWIW I used an ACDelco O2. Has been working great for over a year. It would be nice if you could pull some timing or run some racing fuel to rule out false KR.
