New toy/project 1998 Sea Ray Seville

To install a trim motor on this baby you need to lift the engine off the boat and then disassemble the right hand transom bracket. I am happy to report the removal of the old pump (motor had come out separately) went well. New trim pump works great and with a little wire lengthening between the two relays, the electrical mounted up to the engine and looks like a nice improvement vs two solenoids.

Fired it up again and engaging reverse was nice and easy, nearly how it should be. The new fluid did the trick. I'll be swapping that out again as I have a feeling that new fluid isn't so clean anymore. The ancient fluid in the lower unit was binding up the shifting.

Fuel line and siphon/prime bulb arrived, I didn't have time to install them yet.

Things are moving along nicely and I can see some sunny days on the water very soon. Next up is work on flooring and fix the one or two rotted pieces of wood in one of the seats.

Tonight is work on the "Stoooooopid boat" aka buddies jet boat. Soon his jet parts will be in and that'll be the focus. My project needs to get finished so we can hit the water.

I wasn't fearful of dropping the lower unit, didn't want to because that's more time before it hits the water lol.

Things left to do before water:
Slosh fresh fuel in tank and drain to get any badness out before filling up.
Floor
Rebuild a seat piece or two where wood is rotted
Install fire extinguisher (On hand)
Change fuel line from tank to engine
Horn (JY)

Oh..and I'm going to look at er uh

In case you don't see the resemblance.. it's the sister to my boat in blue. A good running 100hp is worth $1K all day. If the boat is decent and needs less than mine, it could be a great flip to recoup some cash I've spent.

Texting back and forth with the guy. He was going to fix the fuel line for someone to come see it. I'm telling him, don't bother... I have my external tank to hook up. Battery is no good, I have one of those too. Only down side is I guess he doesn't have a hose available until he asks tenants of where it's sitting. Hmmmm it can run for a very short time w/o water. Long enough to tell me if it'll even start.

I'll bring compression tester too.

Guy is lucky HPT or Vagcom won't hook up to it. hahahhaa :th_biggrin2: I love going to see a car and hooking up a pc. People give you interesting looks.

Boat wasn't worth it. Hell..I had to free up the starter with pliers to get it spinning again. No thanks..I'll pass on that project

Back to mine, picked up some HP gear lube and when I swap it out again... I'll put that in as it's the correct fluid. Also got a fuel filter today. It was pouring out, but we decided to swap out the fuel line from tank to engine anyhow. New hose, siphon pump and fuel filter. Looks and fits great. One more thing off the list.

Pulled some floor up. Just the upper level of ply that's shot. In some areas not any at all. Going to let it dry good and remove any badness then coat up some new wood and get it in there. Need this baby in the water.

Trailer has been registered. Boat reg is a few bucks away, as I'll have my senior citizens do it for me.

I need to do it properly or I'll regret it. Taking the top layer of glass off the moist plywood was good. I found some very solid wood and some very shot plywood in a few areas. Since I have different heights not by say 1/8"-1/4" I'll get some glass and level things out. Once that's done, I'll be ready for fresh wood on top, it'll have resin on both sides and then get glassed over for extra protection, aka the way it should be. A little carpet and the boat is in the water.

Ordered anchor rope last night, got 4 life jackets yesterday (Cabela's $10 each) and some flat bumpers.

Cleaned the bimini top, fixed the ends on it (one side was broken, other side was about to). Found the rear piece of the top in the bag that came with the boat. That covers the entire boat as I have the bow piece, bimini top, rear section....the only thing missing are the two windows. They started out nasty and came super clean.
Also bought more lower unit lube, didn't have the 75hp and above one, had the 75 horse and below. Either way, it was getting at least one more change before heading out.

Next up is buying some plywood and starting to carve it up. Today and yesterday for the most part were "Stooopid boat" work days. Buddy and I have been focusing so much on my boat that it was time to do some stuff on his.

S10 drying rack FTW

Anchor rope arrived, Need to hit supply store for glass stuff and also do all the seats in the boat with the combo of dawn dishwashing detergent with a little clorox in it. Worked well on the top when everything else had a minimal impact.

what anchor you get? a fluke one? either way make sure its got a 2 foot length of chain off it, then the rope to the chain.

that top looks like new almost. scrubbing bubbles to the rescue lol

My hands smell like bleach today. Actually....they are about all I can smell today hahahaha. Did all the seat cushions with the Dawn/Bleach mix, then hit up the store for some Tilex mold/mildew with bleach and some Magic Erasers. Things were looking so good, I jumped in the boat and hit the stained side panels.

The rest... I'm talking to another friend who sews well. In the future, we will need to do some upholstery work to fix a couple of cushions or redo most of them. Came out pretty decent considering where things started.

Yeah on the chain. And... I missed an update on a Cabela's trip this past weekend.

Figured I would try these fenders. Not the traditional and hopefully they work well.

Lifejackets were on sale for $10 each, requirement is that you have a jacket for each possible passenger. I snagged 4 figuring they are ok jackets, and we would get nice ones for the two of us.

Bought registration numbers in black, I need white. Stooopid boat will get the black, ordered a set of white.

Loaning out your trailer when you don't have a truck really sucks. should be picking up wood tonight to start floor.

Looks like you've conquered the mildew monster. The fenders made me go hmm. They might be bunk or just the ticket who knows. Hurry up or you'll need a jacket to cut your first wake. I wouldn't have worried about cleaning anything except the cushion you gotta sit on to steer, for now. But I do my own laundry lol. Keep at it, Bill!

Well..to put that drivers seat back in place...I had to pull up some glass and replace a 1" thick piece of wood. Cause where it was...was a rotted square. Picked up some pressure treated ply tonight to get things rolling. Talked to a buddy that knows how to adhere wood etc and I'm about to be on my way.

Vacuumed out the boat last night and cleaned the front storage areas pretty well. There's still plenty to do here, not a whole lot that'll really seem to move things forward besides the flooring. Onward!

Weather is not playing nice here. It's very humid with possible thunderstorms. Last night I raced home (boat top was on but boat wasn't covered fully) and got the tarp on moments before it poured. With that rain came worse stifling humidity, it will not stop me from doing something that will get us in the water soon.

Looking at all the items that need some attention while the floor dries, I remembered one of the bow cushions had plywood was no longer any good. Setup some nice new sawhorses and laid down a sheet of plywood. Got the measurements, cut and after removing the staples from the cushion, the old wood was removed, new piece slid in (after some edge rounding etc) and stapled in place. The only way it could be better is if one corner of the vinyl wasn't hard and cracked. We will go with what we have for now and slowly redo the vinyl of the boat.

The back to back seat that folds flat also needs a couple of pieces to be done. It is up on the shelf at the back to the shed.... maybe tonight. Also the frame for the three back seats (across back of boat) needs to be redone. I have the old one in a couple of pieces and can reconstruct a new one if I use it as a template. I'm hoping by the end of the weekend to have the floor either installed or close to it and the seats reconstructed. I'd like to be on the maiden voyage next Saturday.

Got the rest of the supports into the boat, then two sub floor pieces and one sheet of top floor across the back of the boat. Mid piece with ski locker has the hole cut in it perfectly. All that is left is to triple check measurements and cut the outer edges, then drop it in. After that.. there's one small piece that extends up into the bow and it'll be time to lay the carpet that was picked up today.

There was a lot of measure...cut...measure check.. check measure cut. And we had a nice day of on and off drizzling.

Overall today was a big day as the end is clearly in sight.

Giving myself a pat on the back the last couple days. Measure, measure and more measuring pays off. The ski locker came out perfectly. It's beyond solid and the metal isn't even screwed in (awaiting the carpet install). The floor is complete, I began building the rear seats. Going to reconfigure a bit, middle seat had been a cooler that drains into the bottom of the boat. No thanks, we will pack a separate cooler anyhow that doesn't have a seat as a lid. Also the third seat was easy to pull out so you could jump into boat, except that's too far to go down from the swim platform on the back of the boat. That will become another storage area and the seat will be reinforced so we can step right on it, giving a person an intermediate step.

It was raining off/on both days of the weekend, cut me slack on the exposure of pics.

ski locker lookint to rear of boat

Looking forward before rest of floor was in

First piece of the rear seat. Can't build it as one piece or it wouldn't be removable, have plans ready for the last part. Meanwhile it's screwed down and the joints are glued and stapled with some screws in key areas. It's only going to get better from here. Meanwhile I was sitting on it resting for a bit.

looking good, cant wait to hear the tails of the first trip out.

maybe get it ont he water before you buy to much extra cool stuff. test run you know. engines have been known to blow up after sitting for years. i learned that first hand, miles from shore lol.
