Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Grandpa's 2001 Silver Metalic GTP

I pulled the diff. Everything looks good there. Whatever it is must be deeper. Nothing stands out when looking through the bottom.

It does look like needle bearings though.

I've been taking pictures of everything I've done so far. I'm considering, possibly, doing a trans rebuild write up.

Those look like gear teeth or a needle bearing, and a washer or bushing of some kind. I'd be curious to see what it is. Maybe a planetary deeper in there. What did it do upon failure again?

I guess it could be planetary needle bearings. PO said it lost reverse, but would go in all forward gears. Initially, I was thinking broken reverse band. Apparently that's not the case. I'll know more when I do the full tear down. I know it's a ways away, but I'm hoping for a TEP black Friday sale. That's when I'll order the stuff for my transmission.

New radiator came today. Suffered a little from shipping. Junkyard coolant sensor took care of the "low coolant" light.

I ran some super flush through to get any green/red mix sludge out. This is what came out a day after flushing everything and getting clean clear tap water out.
DSC_0009_zpsjdn8v6l8.jpg

It came with this cool little tool for removing the trans cooler lines. This would have been nice to have a year ago.

Taking it Friday to get it aligned, then she should be ready to DD. Gonna need some A/C work eventually though. She blows hot...

Went with the stock 1" Spectre. Probably investigate the Monte HD rad if/when mine goes. Just wanted to get this thing together and put some miles on it after all the work I've done!

I just picked up that exact radiator! One of the clips on the core is broke which left a hole in the plastic end. That's why I only paid 6 bucks for it :) Just gonna plastic weld and epoxy the clip back on and hope it won't leak.

I'll be interested to hear your temps after you install it. I am waiting for the front bracket that attaches to the hood release to get repainted, a friend is doing it for me. Mine is rusted in half.

$6? Nice!

The radiator was the last major concern. After the alignment on Friday, I should be able to start putting some miles on it. I want to give it a good shakedown before I hand it off.

Still needs:
-AC fixed - Haven't even diagnosed. Will check the charge today. Assuming it's just low. If it is, I'll throw a can of dyed refrigerant in it to trace the leak.
-Radio fixed - Display doesn't light up. $14 for a bulb.... Ouch.
-VC gaskets? - I'm seeing/smelling smoke from the back side when I rev the engine while bleeding the cooling system. Just need to get my mirror back there to know for sure. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think any oil that got on the exhaust during the trans install should be burned off by now. If it's still smoking, it has to be from fresh deposits. (?)

Made a quick run over to the local Wal-Mart for some 134a and UV dye. Took forever for it to get up to temp, even in 110° heat. I'm not convinced the thermostat is working properly. Regardless, I must have done something right. It didn't overheat, and it doesn't leak! I had it idling for at least 20 minutes in the driveway while I charged the AC system. Once it got up to temp, fans kicked on for just a for just a moment, and she was back under 200°. I'm satisfied with the install.

Now that I have some dye in the AC system, I should be able to figure out where the leak is. Gave the engine a quick wash and detail to make it easier to find also.

While the AC system was charging, I stuck a mirror on the back side of the engine... She needs VC gaskets.

Junkyard run tomorrow after alignment to pick up some other odds and ends.

Pfft. We don't get anything "special" in our ghetto pick-n-pull. I felt like I hit the jackpot when I found that spark plug wire bracket that goes over the supercharger. In the year and a half that I've been going there, I've only ever seen one GTP and it was a '97. Only 3 '04+ GP and they were base models. I'm talking, steel wheels.

That place is great for CHEAP common parts. Clips, Starter, actuator, random sensor.... But your never going to see anything unique at that place.

You know what the sad thing is though; Even if I found a set, I probably wouldn't even put them on my car, or this car. Probably sell them for some go-fast parts. That's more my style.

I said that too, then I bought the hood...rims...etc. Keep in mind you can use those 04+ seats in your car (either one). Probably one of the best things you can do to the car, really.

Believe me, I can't wait for the day when an 04+ with a tan interior shows up. I'll be all over that!

Odds are that grandpa will get his first though, as he has black interior.

I'm really hoping for some decent pregens. That's at least feasible to see there. Their still hauling 20 year old cars into that place regularly. I like that they have their inventory online so I can check to see what they have on the lot.

Next L67 w-body they set, I'm hoping to score the trans from. For $150, I can have a working 4T65E-HD to use as a build core.

The dark seats don't look that bad if you accent a few other things. I started with a tan interior and have the dark GXP seats. If you can get an 03+ transmission. It has the hardened 4th shaft, ratcheting sprag, etc.

Congrats on the rad instal. I'm thinking of doing mine tomorrow. Glad it brought your temps down. After seeing the huge dex chunks in my heads, I'm near positive the rad is plugged.

Question, ballpark, what did the trans build cost you?

Have you considered running any chemical flush through it? I did, and it brought out a little extra crud. I don't think it was too gunked up, but I wanted to be sure the system was clean before I put a new rad in. No sense in clogging up a brand new radiator when a bottle of flush is so cheap, and you're draining the system anyway...

I made a spreadsheet of the transmission cost. JUST the parts were around $700. I spent more on tools and fluids.

That's perfect thanks! I think this will be my winter basement project. I can get a trans stupid cheap at the yard.

I flushed out both ways when I replaced the dex. And the I drained when I did top swap. I MIGHT put cleaner in it, but I was kinda wanting to strain and reuse the coolant I have in now. It only has a couple hundred miles on it. Well see, but you gave me something to think about.
