• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

From Grand Prix to TDI

Well it's a DD so I wasn't trying to drive it on the ground. I was mostly wanting to see if there was any advantage to mpg. For some reason it went up significantly...not sure why though? I can go lower if I wanted, but when the car is full of people I don't have much spring travel if I put it all the way down. Thanks a bunch drunkie :)

Maybe this helps....

I can definitely go lower in the rear but as I said before, loading up the car with people it gets TOO low. Maybe when I get home in several months I'll mess with it more. These were thrown on fairly quickly without much care for adjustment

nice look house man, congrats on the purchase!

Appreciate that D! It was a nightmare double checking all the work. The contractor didn't do a great job keeping up with the subs. Can't wait to see what you do with a place :) Hope there's a thread to subscribe to for that

It is going to be about 2 years. LOL so stick around.

FINALLY HOME FROM DEPLOYMENT!!!!

I added ceramic tint and dropped the coilovers down. I might add llumar blue air to the windshield.

sorry for fuzzy phone pics ;P

does this have sport mode? if it does they are kind of fun. i work at enterprise and i drive one about everyday and they are kinda torquey for what they are. love what u did with the Dub man

So far no troubles!! I do have the DSG transmission so I have "Sport" mode but no paddles ;P Maybe one day I'll upgrade to a steering wheel from a GLI? My 0-60 isn't great but I have good stomping power from a roll. If I get a ECU tune I think I'd be hitting ~7 seconds for 0 to 60.

My mpg average has been steady at ~40 ever since the move. All the city driving previous to that kept me pretty low. My average has been higher since it was lowered. Next step is audio...

PHD Audio FB6.1 Pro

My subs. Hybrid Audio I6SW

My processor. JBL MS-8(z for refurbished :)

Swapped out the coilover setup for one that's proper to my car...

They're basically KW v1's without the lifetime warranty. The other ones were meant for a Jetta GLI that has IRS. I have a torsion beam. Slight difference in ride quality, but my rear springs stay engaged with the frame at all times now vs. when they don't on a lift.

I guess with my deployments I've been pretty much removed from quite a bit.

Update: I finally came home this past fall but needed knee surgery because my ACL didn't exist. It hasn't for the past 3.5 years. It took me that long to convince doctors I had an issue. Apparently strong quad muscles help maintain majority of the knee characteristics so it's hard for the doctor to determine if there really is an issue.

Anyways...I also traded the TDI for a Hybrid model since it was a killer deal and I was scared that VW wouldn't cover the high pressure fuel pump repair under the table anymore. It's ~$8K fix. I know...my hybrid still might be a maintenance nightmare but I thought it was a good gamble, especially since the Hybrid was on a fire sale and I didn't lose anything in the trade.

Moving on...I no longer have the Fender audio to deal with and I just recently began my install from the parts listed above. I can't even begin to explain how it felt with this hanging over my head these past couple years. But I now have the JBL MS-8 installed with factory radio and OEM speakers. I have to admit, I never realized how much processing can help a bad situation. The OEM speakers sound pretty expensive now! The biggest issue with tuning by yourself is relying on the availability of microphones and tools plus the knowledge and know-how to apply tuning techniques. So... tuning can be a nightmare. The MS-8 can do in about 5 minutes what hardcore enthusiasts take months to achieve.

Hopefully I'll be able to start posting more updates as my install continues. If anybody has questions or needs help I have checked my PM's here and there over the past couple of years and although I may be slow to respond I always try to help out. Here's a couple of photos, sorry about the quality...

The Fuel system issue kept me from looking at the VW TDIs when I was looking for a new car. SO VW is just flat out denying the repair now? I heard it got better at 2012 Models

I don't know that they're denying anybody yet but VW of Canada sure is and I don't see any reason why VWoA wouldn't follow.

The 1.4 is a nice somewhat over built motor though and combined with the electric motor really isn't a slouch (for a hybrid). I think somebody's software on evwaudi.com clocked 0-60mph at 7.2 seconds. From a roll you'd never realize it's a hybrid.

Anyways, you're right. The '12 models got higher revision pump models and nobody has confirmed all the attempts to help the situation but I think there's at least 4 or 5. There were a few revisions after '12 too.

Good upgrade and welcome back, make sure you document all the injuries for a VA claim when you get out.

Absolutely! I guess we'll see how it all turns out but I at least document everything in case it turns into something later.

Hopefully I'll get the motivation to do some custom sub work for up front. We'll see how that turns out though
