So I recently got into two TDI's getting rid of the GP and a Ford Five Hundred. I never put together a thread so figured I might start...

So I first purchased the GP in 2007

One day I got the bug for audio and some other things...

Ended up with SSC, custom audio, and MSR 045's because I didn't want to take too much away from my daily driver

And on Tuesday I get these wheels...

Eww auto lol. Are these any faster than the older ones? I drove an 01 and it was pretty slow but got 50 mpg so that made up for it.

I enjoy the torque at 234lbs but only 140hp. The gearing is inclined for mpg too so 0-60 is 8 or 9 seconds? I've read that for about $500 tune and removing some CA emissions plus an adjustment to the turbo I can get 350lbs or torque and ~190hp. *shrug* eye hart my mpg's :)

2001 was most efficient for TDI. My wife gets ~52mpg in her 2012 passat and I'm around 38mpg on a 5 mile commute to work

Looking at some coil overs on tuesday too! :D Seems like a much bigger aftermarket for VW vs. GP :(

ofcourse theres a bigger aftermarket for Veedubs. veedubs are well known for their afficionados vs silly w-bodies that were mostly fleet/rent cars.

good buy. mpg's ftw.

other than boring look of the tdi cluster everything about this car looks nice i think i want to pick one of these up to be my second car

Ya, the mexico jetta sedan doesn't get the nice cluster or trip computer. You need the Sportwagen or GLI for that. They're still German made. Apparently making the swap is a b. too because the sedan platform isn't the same car? The JSW and GLI also get some other things like "soft touch" interior vs. the hard plastic. um...dual climate control and independent rear suspension too.

Thought I'd update. I'll be headed to work for a while and won't be around....

I added ST coilovers finally...they were purchased with ~5k miles(owner moved onto bags)

Here's my fuelly...

Last month mpg = 40.2mpg

Best city/highway avg = 42.4mpg

Total life of car avg = 36.6mpg(it's been much better than that lately tho.)

Sally (VW Jetta) | Fuelly

In case anybody wondered where I went for so long, it wasn't the VW, it was this...
