• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! What Happened to the chat box?

It went down yesterday when the chat was off...

I believe this calls for a total recode of the site, or a cap on thread lengths. Look at the word association game, its MASSIVE.
 




I miss the chat. I don't feel like making threads when it'll take room on the server and if my question can be answered quickly through a chat with somebody knowledgeable..
 
He sent me a message yesterday. He said currently the chat really bogs down his system and bots are spamming the server doing DDoS attacks everyday around 3am causing the system to bog down. Until he can resolve this issue the chat will not be back.

So its multiple things and disabling the chat is helping keep the site online with less downtime.
 
I say some of the guys from the site figure out where the attacks are comming from and then take down their sites servers. I now stuntrider and some others are pretty smart about things like that. :th_thumb-up:
 


this site wasnt made to have a chat anyway lol, it was made for ppl to get their questions answered about their cars. i think thats a lil more important then a chat that helps pass the time at work. just sayinnn cuz i miss it too but it makes tons of sense. =)

Some people actually use the chat for back and forth banter, opinions and fast answers, and not just to bs with each other....I am guilty of using it for both. But a chat is just as useful for car talk as it is for straight up bs'ing
 
Not having any bandwith issues or anything like that. Only using maybe 10% having issues with all running out of cpu . And issues with bots tieing up the server.
