Valve cover vacuum question??

If there is a valve cover leak will this interfere with the vacuum? If my valve covers leak would that be enough for ruff idle like I have a vacuum hose out?

I accidently put a small crack when doing my LIM replacements, got a just a lil frusterated and forgot about the third bolt on the alt. try to yank off with a small crowbar, and put a small crack on the rear valve cover. -I know I know jacka** on my part- Applied that application that can fix lleaks on metal, been working for a little while. I can hear air being released from under the alt. thinking its the valve cover finally giving out. I have new covers coming in -thanks to dsmuts- and will be replacing both valve covers as the front one is warped and leaking.
 


Lol that happens to alot of us. You should fill the hole with some epoxy. You don't want oil coming out of it and starting a fire on the manifolds.

As far as vacuum I'm not sure.
 
New valve covers will be there in less than a week and you can fix it and be happy you for the moment aren't leaking oil anymore lol
 
@Swiggles The car is shutdown. If she's bleeding, ain't acting right, then she's taking a nap. No going outside. lol
@BillBoost37 Good to know. I was praying that's what the problem is. I've cleaned TB and replaced every sensor and all vacuum lines.
@dsmuts Painting the covers before installation. Got everything for prime and ready! Thanks again.

Was thinking of changing alt. but if it ain't broke don't fix it. Plus if the alt. goes out easy fix. Hoping to remove elbows w/o damaging, they came out no problem on the LIM replacement. Replace all fluids, any gaskets, and a few hoses.

OP: just don't pull a Dave and put the wrong bolts in the improper places and make a hole in the valve cover with the short alt one.

Covers just came in. oh happy days!!!
 
Got her all sewed up and running pure. Had no problems at all. One of the injector O-rings got shredded. Broke a few vacuum hoses. The black plastic piece that sits on top of S/C broke need to get the name for that, maybe PCV valve? But rigged up to work until tomorrow. Thanks

No. I wanted too but got off work late and spent all Fri. night putting them on. Was able to lightly sandblast, they look brand new.

Now she is throwing codes P0101 and P0121.
I replaced all sensors on TB and cleaned the TB really well. Thinking about another cleaning but should't the sensors be good? They were brand new from AutoZone. No sensor got wet made sure of it. I am starting to believe the TB is just crap. When the car first starts she high idles to about 1.3k and then she slightly drops while wanting to give up or dies. When I start the car again, if I rev the engine up from the TB a few times she runs like a champ. What gives?
 
What is the description for the codes? Right...going to make you do the research.

TB isn't junk, codes are from a sensor. Is the TB gasket good?

P0121 Throttle body position sensor
P0101-MAF. The computer has recognized a return signal error.Map may be effective.

May sound like a dumb question...but which one is MAP?
 
Replacement of the defective, improperly non-heat resistant, useless plastic valve cover material that is a source of oil leaks that will result in a known engine fire hazard in all defective GM 3800 v6 Supercharged engines with dangerous plastic-flammable front spark plug guides and the defective and dangerous plastic flammable decorative engine block cover should be free under the factory fire hazard recall on these engines.

Initial recall service merely replaced the sealant gunk under the defective warping front-bank plastic valve cover with fatter/spongier expanding goo, but the cheap plastic covers continue to warp further and re-develop dangerous fire hazard oil leaks after this haphazard and inadequate temporary half-repair.

The poor stop-gap measure recall "service" did not permanently resolve the defective materials fire hazard danger on a long term basis nor did it resolve the performance defect in poor GM workmanship.

If you intend to continue using the flammable plastic GM engine cover and flammable plastic GM front spark plug wire guides then you should obtain original steel AMC/Jeep valve covers for this 3800 V6 Jeep engine, replacement with melting and warping GM valve covers is unsafe since the warpage that causes the oil leak that drips oil down onto the super hot front manifold of a parked GM engine causing the fire hazard will continue/recur.
 
replace the gasket with the grommets and you'll be fine for years to come.

Has anyone actually had a set of warped valve covers?
 


No, even those that think their covers are warped...soon realize that front edge that looks warped is intentionally put there for the stock wire holder to clip to the cover.

I nearly hit the spam button.
