true, but you're still talking horsepower you don't necessarily need in a family sedan. 180-200hp is needed to move the car and whatever's in it, 350hp is getting excessive from the designer's view. the honda guys have always been ahead of their time. at the end of the day, business is business and everybody has their preferences. i go for gm because most of their stuff is quality and easy to get and fix myself, and i needed a car that i could take stuff/people in. hard to do in a crx. but if you like honda, just please no fart can
 


Cars and modding them is a continuum.

Lets start on the stock side of the continuum. The fastest production Pontiac could beat the fastest production Honda in 1999. Moreover the GTP could beat all production Hondas in the same year [besides the ~$50,000 acura NSX WHICH by the way was painted "grand prix white" in its second year of production]. To be fair the 2000 Honda s2000, the fastest of the Hondas would beat the GTP (a 3,300lbs family car)by .6 in the 1/4 mile. GP> Honda

Now the middle of the continuum, light recreational modding. As we have all experienced most Honda drivers who do this do it very poorly. Big wings, FMHE looking air filters and other things that do nothing or lower the performance of the car. I am not saying it does not happen on the GP, but it is far more prevalent on a Honda. Your average modded GP can beat your average modded Honda. GP > Honda

Now the heavy modding side, this is people that know what they are doing. The worlds fastest FWD 3800 car (a grand prix gtp) runs a 8.65 @ 158.97mph. Keep in mind the stock Grand prix is 3,300lbs. Obviously the record holding car was lightened. The fastest FWD Honda Civic runs a 7.87 @ 184 mph, .87sec faster. Keep in mind a stock civic is 2,200lbs, 1,100 less then the stock GTP. Again i am sure weight reduction took place in this vehicle as well.

Would the Pontiac be .87sec faster then the Honda if it shed 1,100 lbs? U tell me...

I bought my gtp cause it was black with black leather and only 800 bucks and I def think it was worth every penny and I really enjoy the car.

Alot of people give hondas a bad rep cause they put shopping cart wings on them and potato launchers lol. If you do the right mods both looks and motor wise they are really nice cars considering you can have a 4 cyl that gets 25mpg rapeing v8s

Opinions are like A Holes, everyone has one and they all stink. If you are trying to win some sort of debate about the look of a Honda VS a Grand Prix then you are in the wrong place. Besides what looks "better" is entirely subjective and therefore has no factual grounds, an argument for your case cannot be won.

I did! Did you? The stock Integra type R in 1998 ran a 15.5 quarter mile, .6 seconds slower then the GTP. GTP's have been known to run mid 14's in the 1/4 mile depending on track condition. I digress tho this is bench racing and really proves nothing. If the Acura has the 5 speed manual forget about running with the stock GTP, the automatic might keep up. Still lets have it your way, in 2000 Honda produced a type R that would run 14.8 in the 1/4 mile. (still were bench racing and at .1 sec difference it is anyone's game in real life). That would mean Honda and Acura only made one production vehicle that was faster then Pontiac's 4 door family sedan in 1998. And two that could beat it in 2000. We were neck and neck with your Type r in 2000 and not even trying. GTP = known 4 door family car, my grandma had one no joke. Type R = racing vehicle, the R stands for racing. And dam im not even going into other GM names im strictly talking about Pontiac. IF we are talking about Honda VS GM that's a whole different ball game.

Good Glad you like your Pontiac! And i agree Honda does get a bad rep, mostly because people modding them have no idea what they are doing. But lets be fair you are giving domestic 8 cylinder engines a bad rep for poor MPG's. Look at it from our perspective, yes a 4 cyl Honda can beat stock v8's but stock v8's can also beat A 4 cyl Honda. We can play the "whats possible" game all day. I mean cmon, Acura released an 8cly engine in 2009 that runs a 15.2 sec 1/4 mile, a 1999gtp could beat it, a 2009 stock 4cly cobalt could blow its doors off.

LOL, I knew someone around here with a REAL Integra Type R (white with white wheels, got a pic somewhere. Stock for Stock we were side by side until the 100+ range when he'd pull a little, barely though. Considering a healthy stock GTP traps low-mid 90s in the 1/4 i'd have him in the 1/4 mile. And if I had better tires it would of been a better race. I spun alot more than him. We raced a few times with the same results. Never raced me again when I did a few bolt ons. Not bad considering how much heavier and cheaper my car was than his.

As for an S2000 I knew anything guy with one and he had a CAI for sure, not sure what else he had but with a CAI, DP, 3.4", DHP 1.0 I'd run him in the 1/4 mile with ease. And IIRC he was launching at 6k too because the car had no balls down low. Let me tell ya, I wasn't impressed at all. Consider how much money I had in mine verses his and mine being a family car I thought his sports car was pretty pathetic. Course when I think of a sports car, Honda doesn't come to my mind because i'm not an idiot.

LOL, yeah over the years i've heard many ricers claim this but I've seen so few actully prove this. And if they did, they had alot of $$$$$ in there set up to prove this compared to the other car. And the realibilty wasn't there either. If you truely believe this though, more power to you. LOL

I've been around for awhile and i've seen fast street cars, used to street race, go to the track all the time etc. Wasn't uncommon for me to see 9-10 sec cars racing on the street... i've seen a wide range of cars out there foriegn and domestic. Sorry, Honda was far far from the top. Hate to burst you're bubble.... I haven't seen it all but i've seen quite a bit. Alot more than you have I can promise you that...
 
is this the same guy i was arguing with? he seemed smarter on the other page. first, who brings up looks. second, can you not get it in your head that the gtp was a family sedan?!?!?!!? IT WAS NOT BUILT FOR RACING. bigger motors can go faster without modding simply because they're bigger motors, not necessarily because they were built for it. this doesn't make them a race car. i think it speaks volumes that you're comparing an import race car to a domestic family sedan... and losing. if you want to talk about factory race cars with 4 cylinders, talk cobalt turbocharged. 5.5 sec 0-60. runs under 14 quarter mile stock. that's what gm can do with a 4-cyl. when they actually try. imagine what they could do with 2 more cylinders if they wanted. they are... well, were running a business. they needed a sporty family car. they made 4 different models between the SE, GT, and GTP but the focus was still the same. pontiacs race car was the trans am. compare your civic to a trans am and see what happens

Who cares about EcoBoost. Ford tried to hype this thing up saying it is the best thing since sliced bread. Please. And Japan had VTEC? Impressive? Hardly...all VTEC does is move your powerband and opens at a higher RPM...so instead of having any low end torque to actually get off the line...you've gotta rev te living god outof it to get any horsepower...that's why most of any road/street race you see Honda's running that are modded are from roll's...because even my bone stock '07 Slobalt has more torque from the LE series Ecotec than a modded D, B, or K series.
