Tire size and rating information

I just got new wheels and tires, and I'm sharing some info so you'll know. I was told 235/55R17 tires would fit perfectly but, in fact, they ever so slightly rub on the struts in the back. The wheels are 17x7.5 with 42mm backspacing. A little less backspacing would eliminate the problem and look better too.

if they are rubbing the strut, you want less offset to push the wheel farther away from the strut. however, in your case i expect something else to be wrong because those specs should be super easy to fit without rubbing, tires and wheels.

I realized my mistake and edited the post. They rub on the spring seat, but just BARELY.

For a stock 6.5" wide wheel, I would recommend you not go wider than 235mm, but a 245/55-16 will fit. You may have to use a small spacer to keep the inside of the tire from rubbing, though.

225 is already too wide for stock wheel.

225 is 8.9" wide, 7" wide wheels make the sidewalls straighter, handle better, less chance of cupping.

Very true! I was just answering the question on whether or not they would fit... indeed, anything wider than 225 on a stock wheel will tend to cup.

i wouldnt put 245/50's on a 6.5'' wheel since it is not recommended by any tire manufacturer to do so. i am putting them on a 7'' wheel tho.

Getting some Pulse 17" wheels which are 7.5 wide. Thinking about getting tires in the 225/55 size. Thinking about running Eagle GT's. Thoughts on these tires or other mid priced tires that you would recommend would be appreciated.

Sorry Guys, this isn't quite the right place for this I don't think... I'm a Budget Enthusiast and Need new tires so I'm taking suggestions. Sticking with stock Wheels and size: 225 60 R16 98 H-V Lookin for an all Season.
Priorities in order are:
Long Life
Good Grip in ALL seasons
Performance
Low Roll Resistance
Ride Comfort
Noise Level

Was looking at the GeneralTire Altimax HP... thoughts or suggestions?

I have a 2006 GXP. I am ready to replace my tires.
I have 245/45R/18's and stock Alcoa wheels all around that came with on the car when I bought it used, but I am leaning towards getting a staggered set to oem specs.
I dont see anyone talking about stock tires. I know they are expensive. ( I will be paying $1025 out the door at Discount Tire here in Jax, FL.)
Other than cost are there any other compelling reasons I shouldn't go with 255/45R/18's upfront and 225/50R/18 out back?
Do that set up perform badly?
Do they wear out quickly since I cant rotate?
Does mileage suffer.
Do they look weird?
Thanks in advance for any input.

being able to rotate the tires is helpful for tire wear and life. i would never put a staggered setup on any car i own..
