Tire size and rating information

The staggered setup sucks. I bought my Gxp a little over a year ago. The tires (255/45/ZR18) were in great condition (2k wear) when I got the car. The tires were Hankook Ventus Es4's. In July I replaced the front tires with two new Hankook's. I will be replacing them again this summer. It's not an alignment issue as all is in specs there. Maybe it's the type of tire idk. As for the rears, they were the same brand and stock size 225/50/ZR18. The wear is good. The problem is now they are noisy because I can't rotate them. They will also need to be replaced this summer. I will be going with 245/45/ZR18 all around this time.

Can i put 235 55 17's on a stock '03 grand prix gt? Set of winters that just came with my gxp. Rims are 17 x 7. They say +42 on the inside..not sure if that means anything. They look like plain ol fwd rims. Is there a risk of any rubbing thats my first concern

is anyone putting slicks on their stock wheels 16 X 6.5? I found a mickey thompson 255/50/r16 but im not sure if it will be too wide for a stock wheel.
 
people have done it. i wouldn't be driving around on them, but if you're using it for straight line track action you should be okay.

you might be better off finding a set of wheels that are 16x7 or 16x8 just for that purpose, though.

The "Z" is the speed rating. Upwards of a sustained 149 m.p.h. Not sure you're gonna need that. Lower speed rated tires are gonna be cheaper, I imagine....
 
LOL. Yeah, don't think I need the Z. But is that size OK, 245? Stock is 225. I'm worried about that. Bio seemed to know what he was talking about, from what I've gathered reading his other posts... But that was many years ago when he was a regular on here.

Just wanting to make sure that 245 size will work on the stock rims.
 
245's work better on a 7in or 7.5in rim.

They fit on the factory 6.5in rims but look goofy to me, even BGF says you need a 7in for proper fitment and ride quality. I'd rather run the factory size to have far more tire options.

Think non directional tires too, you will get longer life you can do regular rotations that aren't front to back only.
 
Ok. Ten four. I k ow you said factory sieze, but how about 235? Right in da middle. I want that wider stance, wider tire look. Anything helps.

What are you thoughts on spacers? Lots of guys use em, but the "car pros" on many websites say they're not safe and shouldn't be used.
 
You won't find many tires in the 235/55/16 size though.

Changing the offset is the only way to make the stance look better. I ran 225/60/16's on 94-96 rims that were +25 compared to the +52 that torq stars are. They looked great because of the offset difference. I've never run spacers so I can't comment there.

Yes, bolt pattern is the same. Bore size is super close, only 1mm difference. Offset I couldn't find and 245/45/18's are what you need for 18's to keep the speedo the same.

Rolling the fenders in a must on 9in wide wheels and if the offset doesn't work they will rub the strut towers.
