The journey of a 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Its called the sd front air dam. And lol only pretty good, probably one of the top 10 best looking IMO! But couldn't find the person with the str's but here is Adam Mandos's aka 1uvakind and he is on other forums not on here though. True vossens and bagged

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Where did you get the front bumper body kit? And did you paint the middle section of the splitter black yourself?

It's an SD air dam. I had it professionally painted. According to the shop the center is the factory charcoal grey metallic paint code. But it is actually darker than the bronze color that these cars came with from the factory. It's close to black.

looks pretty good

Thanks

Thanks for the compliments. I have seen Adam's car as well. His is bad ass. I like the look of his new wheels much better. My brother is going to play around with photoshop and play around with the TSW wheels and the GT8's.

Once I pick a set of wheels I'm taking it in to have the front and rear bumpers painted to fix the faded clear coat as well as repainting the SD air dam. I also need to have a rust spot where the window meets the roof repaired. It's starting to bubble underneath the paint. The guys who replaced the glass many years ago did a poor job. I may wait for spring time to have all this done.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

I detailed the interior this past weekend.

Used one of these. These work very well.

IMG_2312.JPG

The interior received some Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer (used for it's light cleaning ability) and topped with Maguiar's Natural Shine for more added protection.

Natural shine does not leave the interior looking glossy. It darkens it just a bit.

Leather received a treatment of Meguiar's Leather Sealer System. This is the original leather in the car.

Lloyd mats were vacuumed and cleaned with Meguiar's D102 Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner and a brush. I need a new set considering how faded these have gotten.

The driver side cleaned up rather well.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Changed out the LEDs in the gauges once again due to the ebay one's going out. I installed a set of Diode Dynamics HP3 Cool White.

Here is how they look in the cluster.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Last picture for sure looks the best.

That interior looks like my old blue car...spotless.

For whatever reason, I miss not having a ratty 97-03 interior car, LOL.

Keep that thing forever, man.

Thanks. It's not going anywhere any time soon.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Cleaned up the license plate housing. Use some Megiuar's M17 Plastic Cleaner which is a non-abrasive plastic cleaner. Followed that up with some Meguiar' Headlight Protectant to give some protection.

Had a couple diode Dynamics HP3's left over. Installed them under the dash and one in the license plate.

Also had my cousin photoshop a couple of the TSW wheels on the car.

I'd vote for these too

Thanks for the quick photoshop. These also look good. I'm just leery about buying another set of wheels with a chrome lip considering that my current wheels have bubbles under the chrome lip on a couple of them. The little space between the wheel and the lip is something that I would not look forward to cleaning. But the price difference is only $62 which is not bad.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

After 15 1/2 years the car finally hit 100K miles. I still remember the day I drove it off the Pontiac dealer lot with 12 miles. The car still runs great after all these years.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

I have not too much to the car lately. Ordered some replacement ceramic brake pads. Getting tired of all the dust from the hawk pads.

I also replaced the worn out brake pedal cover. Went to two salvage yards and this was the one in the best shape. It came off a 2000-2005 Impala.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Was a little bored today so I polished out the exhaust tips on my borla cat back.

This is what they looked like a few months ago after using Meguiar's DUB metal polish. They looked ok. The drivers side was the worst.

DUB_Before_1.jpg

Today I polished them up using a couple metal polishes.

Used P21S Multi Surface Finish Restorer + 0000 steel wool since it's more abrasive to remove the heavy carbon build up and bring back some shine to the the tips. I followed that up with Meguiar's Fine Cut metal polish which is less abrasive to bring out the shine a little more. Sealed everything with Wolfgang Acrylic Metal Sealant. The sides of the tips just got Meguiar's Fine Cut Metal Polish.

Here's the passenger side and the side.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Ended up changing out the rotors and pads. Repainted the calipers as well as polishing up the wheels.

Here's a before shot of the previous theme I had. G2 Silver with black overlays. The paint had chipped and it was time to either repaint the same color or go with something else.

I ended up going with the black G2 kit and some silver metallic overlays from Reflective Concepts.

Compounded and polished up all the wheels with a DA and 3" pads and then sealed them up. Also did the inner barrels. I only had to clay the inner barrels. The exteriors were fine since I keep them sealed regularly.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

It's always sunny is CA, nice, nice, nice... I cringe when I see my wheels after this winter and regret not changing them out to the cheap rims. Gonna have to elbow grease the hell out of them for sure.
