The journey of a 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Saaawwweettt! Thanks Guz, i was just too lazy to look it up! Haha but want to do this for sure

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Not a problem. I do like the look. looks more modern to me. The LED's were priced pretty good for the quantity.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Today was the first time I used Meguiar's D156 as part of my maintenance spreadsheet that I created so that I can keep track of when and what I use on the car.

Also cleaned up the engine as I replaced the entire tensioner assembly. The engine wasn't too dirty so I just removed a little dirt and grime. By the way the engine has 98K miles on it.

Used:
Meguiar's D103 with a brush to agitate
Rinsed with water
Dried with an air compressor and microfiber towels
Dressed all plastics with Meguiar's D4510 plastic & vinyl coating. Love this stuff. Makes things easier to dress especially those hard to reach areas.
The metal braces and front engine mounts were cleaned up with Meguiar's white wax.

Also playing around with Mothers Back to Black Trim Cleaner and Mothers Back To Black Trim & Plastic Restorer to see if this allows B2B to be more durable and longer lasting. I highly recommend the trim cleaner as it removes wax from trim as well as clean the trim really well. You can follow up with the dressing of your choice. My personal favorite is Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant. Lasts a long time and darkens the plastic. Just testing Mothers right before I go back to Wolfgang.

Also testing Meguiar's Ultimate Black Tire Coating. It's been on the tires for a week and there is no change in appearance after the first wash with just soap and water. This is supposed to be a long lasting tire dressing. Thus the term coating. I was expecting this to be a high gloss product but it is the exact opposite. It gives the tire a dark appearance with a hint of sheen to it. This is a product for those that don't like a high gloss tire dressing that lasts about a week. The biggest con I have thus far is overspray. It can be removed rather easily but I still prefer applying a tire gel with an applicator. With this product it can't be used that way as it was not made to be applied with an applicator. You also don't want to use a lot of it because it will run and appear blotchy. I used it in short burst as if I was spraying paint with a rattle can. Another tip is to apply a spray wax onto the wheels to make it easier to remove the overspray. Just be sure not to touch the tire while wiping off. It does dry to the touch so it will not sling. I will post back on durability as I can not comment on it just yet.

Compared to 2 coats of the Turtle Wax Jet Black Black Endura-Shine Tire Coat Kit that lasted me 8 weeks.

Wow. Looks incredible. Motivation for me to get to work on the exterior of mine...after I get it running again, lol.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Here's an update. Gave the car a 2 bucket wash and followed up with D156 as a drying aid. This is 4 month old Meguiar's Ultimate Wax. In these 4 months the car has recieved a combination of either a rinseless wash or 2 bucket wash with Meguiar's D156 Spray Wax (pro version of ultimate quik wax). M26 has seen it's end of life within this time frame as well as a carnuaba lasts in the neighborhood of 1-3 months.

Good beading and sheeting still. Could go another month or 2.

Here's the video from that day's wash. Again this is 4 month old Meguiar's Ultimate Wax. Enjoy the sheeting.

Been looking at some wheels. Still haven't decided on a set. These are some that I have looked at. These will be 18's. Already have the tires in 245/45-18. I may need someone to photoshop all of them on the car except the KV5's.

TSW Sochi

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

I used to really like the 5 spoke design and the cleaning factor, but now they seem run of the mill.

Getting the right concave look is never what the pics suggest. Your going for brushed or silver right?
Well those TSW Nurburgring wheels are keepers but pricy. Another thing is I absolutely dislike are the black drums on any tire.
I bought the TSW willows and ended up painting the inside close to match the face. That damn hubcap bull$hit pisses me off.
I settled on mine because they were closeouts on ebay and got a killer deal, but I really like them.
Keep looking until you see some and say Yep, thems the ones

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Rings.

Love them.

Yeah I like them as well. I was going to stay with silver but the machine face with gunmetal is drawing me back to this color style.

I am always bias towards the kv5's, but i like the gt8 lots too! What about the asa gt5? Tms8582 has them in his car and looked really nice at the w-body meet.

These look good too. The only thing about these is I am not a fan of the multi-lug holes.

Yeah I'm still looking around. But so far these are what I've come across. I know these are not going to be concave as pictured. I'm going to stick with either silver or even this machine/gunmetalish color options.

Then go nurburgring, gt8, or kv5 :D haha they are all really nice

That's the problem ha. I've gone back and forth a lot. Picking a wheel has never been harder. I just need to pick something and just run with it. I think the styles you picked are good choices.

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Someone on facebook had the STR 607 wheel which is like the gt8, and it looked very good. I will try to get pics for you!

Re: My 1999 Silvermist Grand Prix

Where did you get the front bumper body kit? And did you paint the middle section of the splitter black yourself?
