sqeaking/squealing in engine bay

so i just installed a 4" short ram intake and new plugs and wires last weekend...drove it all week with no problems or dummy lights comming on the dash...today i drove to my gfs house and when i pulled in i heard a squeaking or sqealing commin out of the engine bay...it only happens when it wants to at no certain rpms and it doesnt matter wut gear its in...so i kept reving it in the driveway to about 3000 rpms and the sound would suddenly come and last for about 2 seconds then dissapear. 1 time i got it to maintain the sound at idle so i popped the hood and coulnt tell where it was comming from because it only lasted a few seconds. but only when i rev it will i hear it then it returns to a smooth idle. well about 2 hours later i left and when i stated the car the SES stayed on the dash. the car acted normally, no loss in power or n e thing, but the light stayed on even when i shut the car off and turned it on again. the sound can be heard from the drivers seat but isnt too loud...wut could this be? i wanna fix it tomorrow if possible thanks for the help

well i was on my way to autozone today to see wut codes it threw and on the way there and i couldnt hear the sound n e more and the SES light went off about 5 min after i left so i turned around and went home...so i drove to my apt in pittsburgh (a 95 mile drive) tonight and i heard the sound again when i would stop for tolls, traffic lights, every time i would stop. but after i would be stopped for a couple seconds it would go away...SO since we need a code to diagnose my problem, if i have my car scanned now willl it throw n e codes even if the SES light isnt on?

ok cool in that case ill go to autozone tomorow n let u guys know wut cods it throws as soon as i get back

so i went to autozone and the guy there said he cant scan for codes unless the light is on (go figure) so HE thinks the light and noise r unrelated he says the light was probably just the gas cap (which i click at least 5 times at the pump bc i know it will set the SES light off) maybe the seal on the cap is bad? but the squeak sounds like its commin from the alternator so he thinks maybe its goin bad YAY but im gettin a second opinopn this weekend...

what kind of POS scan reader does he have? As far as I know you can retrieve the codes that are in the history for a period of time........

I see you have a custom tune........do you have anyone local that can scan it for you ? Nevermind........I see that is next on your list

yes ha actully i just PMed a guy who lives north of pitt who has a tuner but i might have a garage back home take care of it

so the sound is getting worse and i fear that it is my alternator bc its commin from the belt and whenever i got alotta electronics on i seem to hear it more, and i hear it at idle...after all it is the one from the factory...but im takin it to a garage this weekend where i know the machanics so hopefully its something else cheaper ha...ill let u guys know wuts up

well if its the alternator its not that bad to do , but one problem ive had is the belt tensioner , and if it is the alternator get a delco its well worth it , the remans suck something aweful ..... coming from a former advance auto employee

good stuff...so i gpt a sencond opinion this weekend and he doesnt thinks it the alternator he thinks its the belt itself, like possibly something may have gotten on it (like the armour all i used to clean the fuse box and coolant bottle) even tho i was carful NOT to get n e thing on the belt...hmmm is there n e way i can clean it? and fwiw it could still be the belt tensioner for all i know...neither mechanic looked really good over it bc they both said since the car is acting normal its probably its nothing major

yes.......you can take it off and clean it with dish soap and water. Make sure it is completely dry before you put it back on. wash it, rinse, and dry........also while the belt is off, check all of the pulleys to see if you can feel anything not turning smoothly.
