I like the styling of the '97-'03 better. Personal preference thing. I also hated how they optioned out the 04+...you had to load the car to get a sunroof. I only know this because my dad owned both - bought them new each time, and was really pissy about the sunroof thing. And the fact that the 04+ didn't really seem to have the same interior room that his '01 did.
 


More cargo space in 04+

Hell I fitted a whole three part tool cart in the rear seats, never ever this would have even dreamed about fitting in my old 2000.

My 04 has 100% intact rockers, while my 00 had 0% rocker left.

My 04 had more power stock than my 00 did.

My 04 is more comfortable and has more infos on the whole cluster/dic. Only difference in "room" is that my head is closer to the roof in my 04 than it was in my 00, seats are higher.

Interior build quality feels good and looks good, while in my 00 it felt like it was on par with a sunfire.

Headlights may look retarded compared to my 00, but at least they actually LIGHT UP THE ROAD, which is what their job is.

Series 3 > Series 2, Gen V is enough for that.

Transmission has some hardened parts at least, in 03+.

And if you got a Comp-G, you get even more!


So this sums up, why the 04-08 outclasses the 97-03.
 
Sounds to me like you did not take care of your 2000. Mine is a 2001 with 250,000 miles and has about 90% of both rockers left, soo.
 
Two more cons for the 04+: Returnless fuel system, no self tuning options for 06+ V6 cars.

Other than that, yes better car.
 
returnless is le ghey but my comp g is all around a nicer car than my 98 was. 04 is bigger inside as well.

I owned it for 3 years, treated with anti-rust, cleaned it weekend, waxed bi-monthly.

Your Michigan winters aren't even real winters compared to the ones we get here up north. So it explains it right here.

My grandparents drove it from Greenville, MI to Lansing, MI every week for 9 years non-stop and never had to use any rust prevention stuff and my Grand Prix is still in one peace. Im not going to argue with you. I was offering my opinion to you, not to start an argument.

Hey think of it this way, GM learned from the flaws in 97-03 years so they could make the 04+ a better car all the way around
 


We just got about a quarter inch of snow last night, and the local municipalities decided it was time to dump ridiculous amounts of rock salt on all the highways for the light dusting we got... so looks like Im more or less done with my car for the winter.

Thankfully I spent the summer replacing all of the brake lines and hoses on my Explorer so it's good to go now, it'll be my winter abuse vehicle with 4wd... I can see rust spots forming on the frame under the Comp G and it freaked me out.. so it's parked for the winter apart from maybe a few dry days when I wont get much salt on me.

I was thinking about it, and the Meguiar's wax that I use usually holds up over the winter, like when I wash the car for the first time in the spring and get the crud off, the wax is still beading water. Might it help anything to spray the underside of the car down with a strong liquid wax in a spray bottle and then not wipe it off? I mean, it would have to provide some kind of shield for not letting the salt water come into direct contact with the metal, the same way it does for the paint... right?

I know CRC carries a product that they advertise as a salt repellent that is a similar idea.
 
Does wax really work on non clear coated surfaces? I don't think it sticks well on just paint or metal. Spend $15 and an afternoon undercoating it if you have somewhere warm to do so.
