RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" Less Slow Now

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Just all more reason for me to find a clean GTP or Regal.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

I've thought of burning down the silver car a few times.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

My mom feels the same way with hers, trans is acting up more and a clogged cat. Needs struts bad and possible ISS.

Maybe have to get away from these cars like Bill did.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Whenever possible, I use the old seal to drive the new if it sticks up in the middle. As with old-school bearing races. They may loan a seal driver kit at your parts store, even a ball joint press might have the right size. If seals were cheap a guy could buy an extra as a driver. Personally I might apply RTV at the outer edge past the press fit or in just a little, or a tiny bead on the leading edge, as it goes in. The greeny seal really doesn't appear to be fully seated from what I can see. I'm with ya though Russo, must maintain automotive sanity above all else. Its a beotch to access again and again. Let another have a go, with warranty.

Bill got away for different reasons. He knows every car has its issues. He did what he wanted with his w-body and had his fun and moved on. Someday everybody will move on to another car. I bet the next car Bill gets is Japanese.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Update shop said the axle has up and down play in it (it never crossed my mind to check for this). Which would make sense why it only leaks while driving and not sitting. But the shop said they won't touch trans stuff, so i found another guy he said its probably the bushing on the diff cover. He said he would order one and he said bring it in Monday and he will take a look at it he said probably couple hundred to fix. I can only assume I hurt it pulling/putting the axle in.

And they noticed the new seal so they won't honor the alignment anymore ****ers. I'll have to pay another 50 bucks for one.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

You don't need an alignment anyway when you do new cv axles.

Popping the ball joint free won't take the front end out of spec, you arent changing anything. The control arm doesnt change and the strut does not move places on the knuckle.

If you are taking the tie rod off to do a cv axle, you are doing it wrong.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Makes it easier to wiggle the CV out of the bearing though. Still doesn't mess up the alignment if you only remove it from the knuckle.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

After i took the strut bolts out it seemed like it was visibly had some toe out on that wheel. I'll take it in regardless iv done maybe 1k on the new struts and springs just want to make sure everything is in spec so my tires last as long as possible..

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

You took the strut bolts out of the knuckle? Yeah that will affect camber, that's why I pop the ball joint.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Yeah, i didn't figure that out till i saw bills "how to" yesterday

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

Sorry for the pain man. I hate fixing something just to realize it's still broke. What exactly is a diff bushing though? I'm not following how where the play in the axle is coming from.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

There is a bushing/bearing in the diff behind the seal that the axle rides on from what I can gather. I'm guessing its just worn enough to cause some play so while driving the axle moves enough to where the seal can't seal against the axle this it leaks. One on the left i think is what it looks like.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

You have a short vid of the play? Some play is normal. I was told this is acceptable:

No but I put it on ramps and tried to move it but i couldn't get any movement out of it . But I also was at a bad angle so I couldn't put much force in it. The shop said it had movement so thats what I told the trans guy. I'll know tomorrow what he thinks. I have a sneaking suspicion that it actually might be the axle possibly being out of spec where it seals causing it to leak dunno? It's a reman unit from napa so who knows.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

it could be just the seal. there was a guy who changed a few till he got a brand that worked. he posted part #'s, but i have no clue where that thread is.

Re: RussDinoGuy's 02 GT "Slowkar" (STUFF KEEPS BREAKING)

I know my friend told me it took him 3 seals till he got it right.
