Question/Your Call, For me!

Hello everyone!

So to make this quick, I bought my dads 2001 Grand Prix GTP from him since my original car got totaled(drunk driver) and I have come to a cross-road.

So the car is stock (besides borla mufflers, tint, and K&N intake)
-158,000 miles on it.
I'm not sure if i want to
-start dumping money into it
-sell it (with money from totaled car also)
-or just drive it to death( meaning no mods and saving money)

Its all highway miles and starts and runs fine and all routine maintenance has always been done to it.

Now the problems that I have been thinking about is that:
-its my daily driver, ive read somewhere on here that its not recommended to mod dailys
-and that with that higher end of miles I dont want to feel like I will be wasting money in the long run, you know?(Granted, ive heard these engines run 200k easy, but you never know)

Few other facts:
I'm 20, getting an apartment, and having a kid with my fiance.(that being said no huge mods will be done(for now =p) if i was convinced to go that way.
Also im mechanically challenged haha, im about a 2/10 on my mechanical skills but im honest and learning more and more about parts under the hood everyday by reading these forums.(Friend would help me with mods)

Now i just want some honest answers because i know a lot of you have had your Gp/GTPs for years and wanted to know what your opinions were given all of the information and situation. I also apologize if there was a specific forum for this type of question because i couldn't find anywhere else to put this type of question
So what do you think?(and why)
Sell?
Mod?
Drive into the Ground?
Or anything you can think of also! And thanks for Reading =]

I'd keep it and drive it. Mod it if it's what you want. I have 200K on my gtp and it's doing pretty good for me.

Thats good to hear! overall I am thinking of probably just keeping it and running it into the ground with maybe just a few mods here and there to have a little more fun =]

You started a family early, so you will have plenty of time after they're grown to play in the modding game. That is if it's legal to modify cars in 20 years.

Thanks! And I also was reading up on engine swapping too, but
Wasn't really sure about it considering my lack of understand and mechanical
Ability. Or just if it was too much of a hassle. This would be after I drove it into
The ground though

You won't have to worry about doing mods because when the baby comes you will not have any money to mod.

Keep it stock and start saving for a house or other family things. Your family should be your first priority. Plus you already purchased this vehicle outright so you have no car payment and insurance should be fairly cheap.

If you do plan on modding I would just suggest small things like an intake, dp, and 3.4 pulley. All easy modifications to do with your 2/10 automotive knowledge. It will make for a peppy daily without breaking the bank.

If you are concerned with high mileage modifying fwiw my 97 has 198K and I dd it with a turbo kit. ;)

And every time my 5 year old daughter is in the car she says, "Go fast daddy, go fast!"

Good luck and honestly you can't go wrong with these cars. They are peppy, cheap, reliable, and last forever.

im gunna say just drive it. DO maintenence and little repairs when you have to, and itll be good for a long time

This is what i plan on doin. i just turned 21, i have a 2 and a half year old. My gtp has the 180 stat, shorter dog bones, and CAI. I did the LIM gasket on my own and thats about it. looking to get tint because not only does it look cool but i hate that my daughter sits in the sun.

So yeah i plan on getting the downpipe. i have 97K on mine and my cat is starting to crap out anyway. then i'm gonna go to a 3.4. Its my daily driver and so i wont go crazy but 13's would be nice :)

i've had my car almost a year and thats all i have done. doesnt help that work is slow and i only get 20 hours a week. otherwise there would be more done. it also doesnt help that i need a blower motor resistor cuz none of my fan speed works. and my windshield wiper motor doesnt work. thats 60 bucks i dont have right now lol but just manage your money right and u'll be able to get stuff here and there.

I know you already got the picture, but do the required maintenance and drive it till the wheels fall off. Take the money you were gonna spend on modding, and put it into a savings for your child.

My car has 228K on the body and tranny. I have a 1 year old so let me be the first to tell you YES modding moneys is hard to come by with kids... :-)
My car is my DD but I will still do minor mods to it. Like a 3.4 drop and supporting mods. Just so I am a little faster then MOST other GTP's.

Hah well I defiantly don't feel alone now! And yea and I decided (in time) to start with just 4 drilled and slotted rotors and brake pads. Maybe calipers too. Then probably get the dexcool **** outta my car, probably should do that soon.
And just I side note I remembered, my dad had been using "regular" gas for yearsss. And I switched it back to premium. Hopefully that isn't also another problem hiding in the dark haha

Really? I was always under the impression those were the best! Aka you could stop on a dime! Geez shows how much I know :/ unless your saying with my current stance they would be pointless?
