Re: What Made You Want To Get A Grand Prix (Especially A GTP)

I've always been a Pontiac fan since riding in my uncle's '67 Firebird 400 when I was very young. I got a GP GT sedan because it's Pontiac, it was in my price range, I like the way it looks and how it went on the test drive compared to everything else.

If I really had my way I'd be driving a Firebird/Trans-Am or at least a GTP coupe, but a combination of gas prices and particularly insurance on either of those made it a fairly simple deicision to stick with a GT for now. I don't know about the USA, but here in Canada my agent said the GTP is classed as high risk/sports car with most insurance companies... being relatively young (20s) and male and driving a GTP means I'd be paying more for insurance than I could reasonably afford. I've only had my licence for a year and a half now anyway so my insurance is already stupidly high despite a perfect record.

It was the first one I saw in my price range with an L67 in it.

Re: What Made You Want To Purchase A Grand Prix

When I heard about how they walk away from LS1's, mustangs, cobras, and most imports I had to have one. Some kid named VerzGTP took it upon himself to tell me how GRand Prixs are the most awesome car ever years ago.

Re: What Made You Want To Purchase A Grand Prix

I did not know crap about cars back in 2007 when my family brought the 07 Grand Prix base, But after a while i got into cars and since then ive been looking at differ cars how things work and stuff. I found out lots of info about pontiac cars and chevys and from then on i loved pontiac cars and chevys cars Especially then the new G8 came out and i always wanted that since i was like 16. I was also into corvettes and i started to understand more about these cars and how fast they were. After all that and when i look at then to now i have learn so much about cars that i am very happy to have gotten the base GP and not some ghetto honda or this toyota camery that my parents were looking at getting. Not only that but this car is pretty fast for its class, the interior looks great and it is a great ride. We have had our share of problems with the car but i still like this car. When i learned about the GTPs i forgot about the G8 mostly since it is very expensive, but because of how the GTP was what i was looking for, a great 4 door, pretty fast, good MPG, Auto car, best of all it is a pontiac so ya. I just hope to sooner or later get the GTP, since i joined this forum back in January i learn more and more about these GPs and i now really do want the 04+ S/C ones now more than the older ones. In General i love these cars

Re: What Made You Want To Purchase A Grand Prix

I needed a car that was more comfortable to drive, and had more room. Also needed something that didn't stand out from the crowd. My other vehicles have always gotten too much unwanted attention from the popo. Cops don't even look at me in this.

And amongst the phone, customers, and the Monday demotivation, threw these back on it.

I hate to brake your balls but my gtp and my moms gt were the exact same for insurance for me. 2200 a year for 17 is pretty good

Re: What Made You Want To Purchase A Grand Prix

Im on my fourth GP, in order a 92 SE, 92GT, and now my 97GTP. I also have a 01 4Dr GTP. The thing that got me was by best friend had a POS 89 4Dr messed up Blue SE and we had so much fun beating on it for years in high school when it came time to buy my first car I was walking home from my job and saw the first 92 I ever owned and it had that cool ghetto compass computer (DIC) that was huge and looked all fancy, had a HUD, and hood vents. I said to myself "This will do"

Been hooked ever since, been owning GPs for over 10 years and not gonna lie cried in my heart when Pontiac was decommissioned, I will buy a G8 GXP next and just step up to the last great american sports sedan ever made. Maybe the last model Comp G but its really hard to pass up the G8s. Pontiac for life.

Re: What Made You Want To Purchase A Grand Prix

because my car dealer friend said hey i got this GTP for 1600 runs good take it for a ride, so i figured it would be a good daily driver and a good lil project for before i got my license

when i was getting my insurance done they didnt have an option for a GTP they said is it a GT or SE 2 door or 4 door and i said its a GTP they said that options not in the computer, they said the vin will tell them exactly what it is and im 17 too and my insurance is about that much a little less

Re: What Made You Want To Purchase A Grand Prix

I drove a 98 GTP coupe and fell in love. Traded that for a C4 then picked up an 01 GTP as a daily. Had it for a couple of months and stumbled across a my current 97. The PO took good care of it and it looked good, plus the price he wanted was too good to pass up. After modifying my 98 I really wanted to go the turbo route. So here I am now with a TC swapped GTP. Once I graduate college I am buying myself a graduation gift, a white Typhoon. Then I will slowly start adding other GM V6 turbocharged models to my collection.

Re: What Made You Want To Purchase A Grand Prix

I always kinda thought gp's were good looking (I even came home from the hospital in a 92 2 door gp lolz) and I remember the "wide track" commercials from back in the day. Then my aunt got a '04 GT when they first came out and I knew I wanted one someday. So two years ago I was searching for my first car and came across a 2000 se that was super cheap. Wasn't a bad first car and it was the reason that i got deeper into the gp world because I found how easy they were to mod. So time came to pass down the se and I went for my 06 GT s/c because it is so much more updated like interior wise it seems closer to my moms '10 Yukon than my dad's '06 Silverado.

In the end tho I just wanted a car that was cool that gm killed and wouldn't be making anymore
