• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Nic or XP?

You're gonna need new gaskets and bolts.
Could be a good time to install head studs. I'd run stock GM gaskets.
Are studs even necessary? I meen im not even close to putting down the power to where it will make a difference. Plus when i turbo ill be doing it big, ie. cam heads ect. , so i can just do them then. Also i know our head bolts are tty but i thought they could be reused a couple times. Felpro is not ok replacement? I get a discount at dealership but i get a much better one at my work.

The reason im saying this is because i can get entire head set intake set ect and head bolts from my work or more than half off threw felpro. So im looking at about 80-100 bucks for it all.

Save yourself the time and effort....keep the heads on the car and swap out valve springs. When you go turbo and go big as you say...that's when you pull the heads of the car. They are TTY and not reusable. GM or Victor Renz for head gaskets....Victor Renz is the company that produced the GM head gaskets.

Alright well im actually gonna end up running a new stock chain and dampener due to the failures of the rollermaster. Ima grab crow 105s, zzp no longer sells them so i guess ill go with intense but im still gonna get the xp cus after reading most peoples opinion the xp is superior to the nic vs and s1x. But as far as the titanium retainers go, should i get zzps or go with the manlys? Should i bother with valve locks, cam bolt, crank bolt?

Things ive already ordered am going to order

felpro lim gasket (ordered)
felpro plenum (ordered)
cloyes stock chain (ordered)
cloyes dampener (ordered)
felpro timing chain cover gasket (ordered)
transgo shift kit (ordered)
xp cam
crow 105s
siemens 60#
zzp fuel pump rewire
titanium retainers(what ones?)
3.4
aeroforce

So if anyone has any of this for cheap and low miles pm me

The xp is not superior to the s1x. You would not notice a difference between the two that's how close they are in specs. The s1x is cheaper than the xp...

After reading every thread possible on this people that have had both prefer xp

I've always made more power on a NIC if all you want to do is drop a cam in.
Really? Dark im interested in hearing your opinion on this. Any proof. Track times/dyno ect? Anything i should note between the two? havnt ordered the cam springs retainers yet.

Literally this is the last thing i do befor i build a trans. I have absolutly no plans on heads intercooler ect unless i turbo after the trans is built and ill have another dd at that time so i wont care then.

stock springs NIC cam is going to make more power than the higher lift you would see on an XP floating valves.... Little smaller pulley and more clearing from the overlap helps cool down the combustion chamber letting you run a bit more boost (air flow) but costs you a bit of power by losing the air through overlap.

If you are going to run an XP you gain a bit in the powerband area revving it a bit higher. And it doesnt sound as cool. XP requires 130 springs.

I ran 12.0 in a 3200lb fiero with nothing more than a NIC and valvesprings with drag radials on a 3.0 pulley, factory stock tune/throttle body but I threw in some 42# injectors I had laying around (cant remember if i needed them).

You know i was kind of thinking the exact same thing. Xp might have potential for more power but that because it has higherlift in the higher rpm range but with the things i have heard about the double roller it seems as its my dd a nic or s1x would be more benificial just runnings 105s and a new stock chain.

Also nic sounds better than them all

I went with the s1x because intense was having a sale and it was $50 cheaper than the xp. They are almost the same cam just the s1x is a bit more mid-range while the xp is more top end. Regardless, you won't notice a difference between the two. Been running an s1x for 2 years now on a stock chain with 105's and I have no regrets. It's a great street cam.

What he said! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

face it xp takes more work to run properly,

Then again s1x takes very little mods and can run down to 2.8 on E85 with no intercooler with gen5 and headers.............

Another point whats the gain in revving the hell out of a street driven car? I promise you more low end will be worth the trade off vs rpm gain.

Ide like to hear from some people when they start having issues on these cams with the 105s and stock chain. Sure ive heard plenty of people saying they have been running it for 20k miles or so but what about after that. When do people start losing oil, stretching chain ect?
