Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed?

If it still grinds doing a real double clutch. Then yeah....that poor thing is screwed up sadly.

Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed success/fail

Double clutching does nothing.

double clutching just lets the rmps drop lower so it goes into gear better. its for those who cant shift lol its clutch in take out of gear, clutch back out, then clutch back in and put in gear. it just slows your shift down.

bad syncros are just that, its not gonna shift right unless the rpm's are spot on.

can you shift gears with no clutch? i dont mean just jamming it in and grinding up some chop meat lol but know how to shift with no clutch?

you should be able to up and down shift with no clutch. theres a madness to it. truth is, its all in the ear.

Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed?

Sounds like messed up syncros. My first 284 ground into 3rd, my second one ground into 5th. Proper double clutching did rectify the grinding however until I was able to get a trans with good syncros.

Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed?

Lol at it does nothing.....how do you think people shifted before syncros were introduced. Old manual trannys required a real double clutch to shift smooth. Hence asking you to try it. If it helps smooth it out. You're only looking at syncros. If it still acts up. You have bigger issues.

I know what double clutching does. I was in that video, as mentioned it does nothing. Best results ive had so far is rev matching gears. I can get it into gears pretty easily at like 3-4k. I dont know how it shifts any higher that that because i cant get the rev limiter off. I have everything in the pcm set correctly, p/n rev limiter is set to 7k Im thinking ima need to use dhp to switch is over to manual.

Double clutching = rev matching

yea but maby im just not double clutching fast enough, but if i shift the car while im in the throttle quickly at like 3k it goes into gear but if i let the rpms drop while im shifting it doesnt want to go in.

Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed?

Yeah you have to rev match. When you shift you pull it to the next gear but don't force it in. Just moderate pressure and it will drop in when the revs match. This is how I've done it. Just cruising though, I've never taken it down a track fast and hard doing this.

when you do this, you'll feel the gear clicking past, then it will fall in gear when the rpms match. once your ear learns when to pop it in you dont need to hold it there to feel the gear clicking any more.

how i taught a few guys to shift the big trucks.

Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed?

Them are ripe! In the 3 and 4 speed cheap RWD car era, I got lots of speed shifting practice. But I used the clutch in anything I cared about. In any case, the technique is similar. I know the soundtrack was dubbed and looped on this, but listen to the blips between gears from the Mustang in this scene. Thats just as important to speed up the shift as feeling the teeth engage. At least for me.

Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed?

So i went for a ride just now to grab lunch and i figured ide test out double clutching more and i got it to not grind at all but i can only do how i said, while accelerating. Like if i let the trans slow down the slightest it grinds so i have to be pretty much full throttle and double clutch as fast as possible.

idk if it has to do with the clutch being so aggressive.

Re: Gins 04 Comp G 5 speed?

Yea keeping input shaft speed up usually helps. Lots of stick-shifters develop a preferred lubricant cocktail of their own, maybe thats something else to look into where gains could be had. Not talking about like dumping sawdust in things with gears to sell a hunk of junk, but the same principle. Don't know if your trans has ATF or 80/90 in it or what, but more cushioning from lube might be key. Anything with synchros that has to be double clutched is well... not right. May not last long.
