Mikes '02 GP40 Coupe

You have a pick n pull type junkyard around? Time to go check them out. There will definitely be 00-05 Impala brakes there, Monte Carlos had them, Cadillac's had them, they're all over. You can always test fit them on a GP while you are there to make sure they fit. You might even be able to buy JY rotors and have them turned to save money (that's what I did).

Once you drive it with any of the upgraded brakes you will despise the stock brakes. You may be satisfied with them now, but you'll see. $300 is MORE than enough to upgrade your brakes.

im not aware of any around here but ill see if I can find one within an hour away, will they work with my 40th anniversary rims?

As far as I know yes, They fit under 16s and I'm sure that your rims are 16s, lol. The GXP brakes and such require 17+. With the stock 16s you max out with the F-body\06+ Impala brakes.

ill look around a little but I need to replace them asap and I cant find a pick and pull jy around here, theres one jy but they charge way too much. if it comes down to it ill just go with the drilled slotted rotors with ceramic pads on the stock breaks.

you can find the calipers and brackets for as little as 50 shipped off ebay. then buy new rotors and pads.

caliper rebuilding is easy and the kits are like 8 bucks a side iirc.

you need to search around for prices that low, but i posted a set for that much in boobas thread about brakes. those were 50 shipped too.

$50-70 would usually get you a used set with brackets hell I might even still have a set in the garage.

the wheel bearings go on Saturday after that I may be going to find fbody or impala brakes, how easy is the install, do they bolt right in or cause any problems?

06+ Impala's bolt right in, caliper, caliper bracket, rotor, and pads you are done. You have to bleed them afterwards of course.

00-05 Impala\Monte\Etc you would only need the rotor, caliper bracket, and pads (they are the same as stock pads though). No bleeding though...

F-body's you need the rotor, caliper, caliper bracket, caliper bracket bolts, pads, and sleeves for the F-body caliper bracket bolts. The bolts that go through the knuckle and thread into the caliper bracket are a smaller diameter than the stock bolts so you need some sleeves to go around the f-body bolts so they are centered in the Grand Prix knuckle and don't wobble around. Lemme go look up the part numbers for the sleeves...

As far as Pros and Cons, the F-body's have a Pro of being aluminum and slightly less lighter, but they have a con of needing the sleeves and the aluminum can clam-shell under extreme conditions. The 06+ Impalas have pros of direct bolt in, and they won't clam-shell since they aren't aluminum, but that also makes them a bit heavier so it's kind of a Con at the same time.

Searching Carpart.com I found numerous examples for calipers $20 each side using the zip code for Manchester, Iowa, within 16 miles. Rockauto has brand new rotors for $19.26 per side. Ceramic pads are ~$40 for the set depending on the brand you choose. You might have to shell out $5 more for each bracket from the junkyard, but you are still under $200

ok ill be looking into that tomorrow or when I have time, I have a couple things going on with the car now,
1. the sunroof doesn't move it only grinds
2. the key doesn't come out of ignition unless I push the small button under the steering wheel.
any suggestions on these issues?
