Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax

I tried the fingernail test and they aren't that deep. It probably just needs a different pad and either stronger polish or compound.

On a 8 year old swirled car your best bet would be a 5 inch backing plate with some 5 inch flat pads...orange and white.
Orange for the Ultimate and white for the polish. I prefer Lake Country pads but Meguiars new pads are supposed to be hot.

The initial pad purchase should be 3 orange and 3 white.
You will get those orange pads loaded and dirty the first time you do a 3 step.
You can just wash them in the sink with dawn and spin them out with the DA. You will probably end up using around 6 orange pad cycles if done correctly.
And that is with cleaning on the fly

The white you will probably get by with one for the top and one for the sides since all the crud should be removed by then.
Next year when you do the car you should be able to just use the white pads and polish to get the grime and swirls.

So yep... mo money mo money

Has anyone used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound-->Polish-->Wax with a DA?

I just got a Harbor Freight DA and am going to try this combo after washing and clay barring this week.

I can't wait to see the difference it makes seeing as how I've had the car for 8 years now and never did anything other than bar and wax in the past. The whole car is covered in swirls, light scratches, and dull spots.

It's a very good combo. Mix in ultimate quik wax after every wash or every other wash and you can maintain ultimate wax and extend it's life just a bit.

I did a small test spot with an old bottle of Megs no. 7 glaze just to test the DA polisher and it removed all swirls but left the scratches. I'm thinking the compound will cut a lot better.

I'll try to make a before/after thread if I can get good enough pics with my ****ty phone.

#7 has no correction abilities. It's a pure polish. It's most beneficial to cars that have single stage paint versus a one that has clear coat. It will fill in swirls and scratches on clear coat. You want to use something with abrasives in it to remove swirls like ultimate polish or ultimate compound. Once you get your car compounded once you should not need to compound again as long as you maintain the finish with proper washing. Ultimate polish or M205 (which has more correcting power than Ultimate Polish) would be more than enough.

I have.. Mainly use my DA with Meg's UC and UP.. And if it that doesn't cut it Meg's 105/205. I use it to apply wax also but I find it much easier to apply by hand.

M105 is ok. It's dusting and short working time gets old. M101 or M100 are much better in terms of dusting and working time. Even D300 is better. Works good on soft to medium paints.

I thought I was done with spending money for a while Lol.

Anyway I swapped the 6" backing plate for a 5" Astro Pneumatic from amazon. As far as pads, I bought the cheap ones from HF. From reading the reviews online they seem to work as long as you swap out that backing pad. I guess I'll find out how durable they are soon lol

Yeah it was just some crap I had in the garage at the time. It was more to test the polisher out than anything else.

From what I've read the pads aren't the problem, it's the 6" backing plate that comes with the HF polisher.

Since the overall pad diameter is 6" but the Velcro backing is only 5.5", that half inch that isn't covered by Velcro gets shredded from the movement of the machine.

Switch to a 5" backing plate and that supposedly solves the problem. Again, this is just what I've read but it makes sense.

Since I already tossed the packages so I'm just gonna give them a shot and see how they hold up. If they're junk I'll get a better brand.

No the pads are junk too... Sure there useable but like everything else there's better ones out there.. And they won't last you as long like quality pads would. The heat from the DA is what shortens there lifespan.

eh..I'll have to try them and report back. I know when most people hear harbor freight, they automatically think "junk", but there's always some hidden gems in there.

Hell, I bought my jack from there almost 10 years ago and never had a single issue with it. So maybe I'll get lucky again lol

Not necessarily, I have enough sh*t from HF. But those pads are J-U-N-K has nothing to do with them coming from HF or anything. LCC are way more superior.

They are junk. Invest in some better pads.

Bingo

Another fellow AG'er knows

Speaking of which.. Any recommendation for a OTC leather cleaner. Rather not order online this time around.. Nothing glossy or anything that leaves that greasy feeling. Lexol was my go to years ago but haven't purchased or tried anything else in quite awhile

I use this kit on my leather interior. Comes with the cleaner and leather sealer. The sealer goes a long way. This sealer lasts longer than the Mothers conditioner.

The cleaner is the same as this if you need to buy more

Mothers has a good cleaner and conditioner as well.

I have the Gold Class spray bottle in the second pic, I love it.

Spray it on a microfiber, wipe the seats down, center console, gear shifter... wipe off with a clean towel. The seats get to be totally dry, no grease at all... and they're so nice and... smooth. Love it.

Well I finally got around to using my HF DA polisher if anyone still cares. I was able to compound the whole car (minus front bumper) with just one pad before it shredded. I took it off and cleaned it twice.

I washed, clay barred, washed again and then compounded. It came out pretty good. The paint is smooth as glass which is nice, but there are still some imperfections and light swirl marks in certain spots (mainly the hood). Maybe the polish will remove it.

Tomorrow I'll be polishing, waxing and throwing on the summer tires/wheels. I just need to bang out some fender dents and the car will look good for the first time in a while lol.
