I would do it one of 2 ways. Tape off and sand then wash dust off, primer, paint, wet-sand, clear... if you want super glossy, if not leave out the wet-sanding... or use Satin-Black.
or the easier way that may or maynot work out as well, tape off, clean with alcohol (rubbing, not whiskey, drink the whiskey... after), spray the "to-be-painted" area with some paint adhesive helper crap (in the paint section), then primer, paint choice color, clear, buff and wax. It may or maynot chip if the adhesive helper crap doesn't work well and the primer doesn't stick, but if it does, you can always sand and repaint again.
Just remember, light coats, even spread, and if you use spray cans buy the $3-5 gun handle in the paint section, it makes WORLDS of difference.
