help me pick out tires

Bio248

DUI BABY
the size i need: 225/40/18.

my requests about the tires:
- not loud, this car is a daily driver
- decent wear rating
- all seasons or summer only, don't really care
- $500 max for the set

i don't buy expensive tires, but i also don't buy **** super no-names. i've run generals and falkens in the past with pretty good results, but i'm open to opinions. a specific link to the place you found the tire at the price you did will be helpful as well.

get to it!

I had a hard time finding tire for your price range.

Seems that the 2 brands you listed are pretty much the only ones you can buy.

I found 2 different generals on tirerack for 450 (altimax HP) and 500 (G-MAX AS 03), but both have a $50 mail in rebate.

Falkens on discount tire were around 110-120 a pop.

There were firehawks and kumho tire in the price range but I don't like either, they wouldnt wear the best and are very hard tires.

yeah, if i bump up to ~$600-650 then my choices go up a lot, but i cant really justify that cost on tires when i might not even have these wheels in the future...

I run the General Altimax HP's. Pretty quiet and very good grip in summer. I haven't tried them in the winter months.

i was thinking about the falkens just because im familiar with how they fit and run as well as their price.

the only other ones that have interested me are the nitto neo gen...

nitto neo gen - 280AA rating - $480 shipped
falken ze512 - 360AA rating - $396 shipped
falken ze612 - 360AA rating - $440 shipped

the nitto neo gen are gonna wear the fastest, but have the most traction and the best 'look' based on the tread pattern.
the two falkens are gonna be about the same, but the ze612 are gonna have a better tread pattern look than the ze512.

opinions based on that? note that i drive my car like 20k+ miles a year since it's a daily and i take it out of state a few times a year.

I shopped around for All Season tires for my DD. These will be my next set, but in a 245/45/18. Kumho Ecsta 4X For summer only, you may find something else better. Otherwise, let me know how loud they are.

just purchased the 612s.

they'll probably be fine for what i'm using them for and the price was right.
