gto swap

how much more hp does a gto have over a 97 gtp & is it possible to put a computer, engine & tranny from a gto into a 97 gtp just trying to find a smarter and easier way to go faster

GTO has a lot more power stock, its an ls1/ls2 versus an l67. however, to dump that motor in a grand prix is going to take A LOT of custom fabbing that i have no idea if you can do or not.

it is about 70-100 more crank HP than the gtp depending on which motor. It will take a lot of work to get this in there if it is possible.......it would be easier and cheaper to just buy something like a 98 Z28 to start with....

It is nearly impossible. It can be done, but there's so much modifying to everything that has to happen first that it's out of reach for most people who don't work in or own their own machine shop.

basically take a sawzall to the underside of the grand prix, cut everything out until you can literally walk, still touching the ground, from the engine bay back to the trunk of your car. Then fab up a new frame and you are now ready to start fabbing up everything else. It's similar to a top swap.

lol:th_laugh-lol3:

they are probably the cheapest price wise of the LS1 cars. LS motors are awesome for power and reliable and this is the most affordable option on average for getting an LS based vehicle

Or buy a 240sx and swap an LS1 into it :th_king-evil:

haha yeah just a bolt or two different

look more into a ls4 swap from the GXP's yeah its more cost friendly to do a supercharged v6 but......I see it like this buy a wrecked GXP ive seen drivers for for 5500 to 6500 that lot drive and no air bags blown. swap the engine trans, tap shift, all the seats, the gxps way better brakes, the wheels, and then sell the rest of the parts! I wanna do this to my 2 door 02 red GP so bad. An ls4 with a small shot of nos! Whats up then!??? It can be done cost effectivly if u buy the whole wreck.

i"m sorry fellas i didn't know the gto was rear wheel sorry for the confusion does anyone know how to terminate a thread thanks

If you want a V8, pick up a northstar V8, and mid-mount the engine.

or put ANOTHER L67 in the rear, and run dual engine. Seen it done on a few different cars.. 500 AWHP

Mid mount the engine? cmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Not happening.

I tell what would be cool is if you stick with the gtp drivetrain and figure out some way to make it AWD. I think some of the vibes were AWD, you could probably figure out some way to use the differential out of it... but idk, prolly more work then i'd put into a GP. BUY A G8!

The Vibe had a Toyota engine and transmission, slight difference there.

The Volvos and I think the Aztec used an AWD version of the 4T65E. There's been talk of retrofitting a GP, but I don't know that anyone's actually done it.

The transfer portion of it is weak, and it's still biased as FWD until it starts slipping. Only then does power get transferred to the rear wheels.
