Duralast Parts :-P

Even Summitt Racing does it. They don't have their own factory making their brand of parts. They contract other companies already making similar product to make it for them and put their name on it.

Its done in bottled water too. Niagra bottling makes Niagra (for themselves), Great Value (for WalMart), and there is at least one more but the name is slipping my mind at the moment.

This thread makes me laugh. Come on guys, some people don't have much common sense. They want everything handed to them on a platter for next to nothing and are not happy unless they are half pis$ed off. I have been working on cars and farm equipment for 25 plus years, you get what you pay for. If you find a store you like, keep going there, keep a good reputation with them and they will treat you right. Think of parts like paper plates, you can buy a pack of 50 for $1.00 or a pack of 50 for $3.69. Of course the more expensive ones are stronger/better. I like NAPA and if you set up an account with them, prices are very reasonable. Their website is great, you can enter a non-Napa part number and it will tell you the NAPA number.

I've had bad luck with some napa parts. I worked on a guys mark 8 and went through 3 rebuilt alt before i got one that charged. I usually just use az because of the rewards program, I buy parts for someones car and then I get a reward to buy stuff for my car. :D

my grand prix has been a pretty good car, meaning i havent had to replace many parts on it, but i go through so many project cars im in autozone or advanced or orileys every other day, first choice is autozone, i figure its becuse my dad always went there, to be honest ive had issues with a part here or there but i dont consider it unusual to run into a defective part any more then i do

ive had problems over the years with every parts store out theres reman parts. it happens. its rebuilt, not new.

buying new parts, ive never had any problems, but those were rare, as new parts cost a lot more.

explain, because if your saying that you will only replace something a limited amount of times when it has a lifetime warranty, then thats wrong, if bought a alternator and it fails 3 times, im already gonna be pissed when i come walking into your store, and then you tell me that my warranty is no good, probably enough for me to walk out of your store for the last time

the problem with advance warranty system is.. no matta what you buy.. weither its lifetime or 3 years... the system deletes it in two years.. and wont have any trace of it... unless you bring reciept..

I keep my receipts for big purchase items for two reasons.

One for warranty and to know where I bought it from. Two for tracability. Any of the stuff I have done to the Grand Prix the receipt has went in the glovebox. Tires, brakes, rotors, elbows, water pump, etc. They will stay in the glovebox when I get rid of the car for the next owner.

I dare you to pull out some 2-3+ year old receipts.

Some of them are the magical fading in darkness type.

Some will be fine forever. Really depends on how they were created.

You guys are really making me think about part choices lol. Lesson here is that cheep parts are not the best option.

Although I will say that I needed a new window motor and regulator a few weeks ago. I went to Advance Auto Parts and they wanted 140 dollars for a brand new window motor and regulator which I thought was way too much. I went to rock auto and found the same window motor and regulator for 50 bucks and it has a lifetime warranty.

I avoid autozone. I use rockauto/advance really depends on how fast I need it. If I can't wait or rather not pay or wait on shopping ill order online through advance and take 5 Nina of my time and walk across the street and pick the part up...plus I use coupon codes 100% of the time so it's only a few more bucks that rockauto. Of course some things aren't carried in stock at advance and ill have to wait and have it shipped so rockauto comes through in that case.

I don't mind the Duralast parts. Sometimes its hit and miss. I recently replaced my water pump with a Duralast in my Ford Highboy and on the way back to return the core, the neck snapped off on the pump and pushed the fan into the radiator. Autozone determined that the water pump was defective and replaced the radiator, water pump, fan, RTV sealant, 4 gallons of coolant and they threw in a new electric fan for free. I ended up installing it all in their parking lot.

I need to go buy a water pump tomorrow. ( Sunday ). Don't want to wait on Rockauto.
I don't want AZ, I found a Napa open and they have a reman or a Tru-Flow new pump.
Anyone have experience with the TRU-FLOW ? prolly just a Napa line.

i got a AZ water pump, its a year later and its working just fine.

but napa parts are known for being of higher quality. cost a bit more too.
