Imo, if you work at a parts store... You should know how to work on a number of car fixes and understand all systems
I..(at advance)..give people a three strike rule on some parts (starters,alternators)..
If someone cant figure something out that simple they shouldn't be touching a car let alone driving one. :th_shakinghead2:Its if the part has a defect.
Not if the part is junked because you're a moron, or that wasn't the problem and you're warrantying it just to "see if it fixes the problem" or if it wears out and you want new ones etc.
I really don't think parts people should offer ANY advice. It tends to be wrong, misguided, or going to a complete noob who's going to botch their brakes and cause a collision because of it.
Example: Apparently the pads and rotors I sold a guy didn't work.
So I pulled out the same pads, same rotors, and the caliper for his car. Showed how there was an inside and outside pad, and they would only go in one way. Otherwise they won't work. Assembled the entire thing to prove it works.
He still wasn't convinced.
Had another guy with an air filter, said he couldnt get it to go in, and thus it was incorrect.
We compared the one I sold him to the old one. They were almost exactly the same (within a millimeter) of each other. The outside former is foam, so it deforms easily. Customer was convinced they were different.
you would cry if you saw how many men, i see having cold air intakes put on, battery's, and wipers, by auto zone employees here.
last time i was there, a guy was doing a full brake job in the lot, another guy had the hood up and tearing something out.
and in the lot next door, hidden in a corner was 4 guys 3 trucks, one one was getting a trans swap lol
i must say ive done my fair share of parts store lot repair work, blown brake line repair, brakes, alternators, lights.
never thought to do a trans swap there though, that takes some balls.
And another thing.. No parts from autozone are "duralast".. It's all white box items.
I don't go to AutoZone so I won't buy Duralast parts. AutoZone counter guys are morons, not to mention their "system" is so far out of date that you almost have to know DOS to know how to use it.
Some of the parts say duralast on them.
