CV Joints are going i believe

Pretty sure my passenger side cv joint is going. I have the infamous green grease on the control arm, and under the hood and its making an annoying squeak every now and then. So basically what should i do? buy new axles? or do i need to buy just new joints or something? if someone could gimme a link to what i need to buy it would be appreciated! and also how hard of a job would it be to do?

Rock Auto has awesome ones...cheap too...that is where I bought mine after my stockers took a crap at 80K or whatever.

cool, ill check it out. any advice on the install?

To pop the shaft out of the tranny it takes some finangling. Sometimes just use a crowbar to wedge in and snap it out of there, or wedge in and have someone else tap on the axle with a hammer. Most of the time it just takes a sudden jerk at the right time to get it out. If you do it by hand most of the time you end up a lil bloody.

get the big nut off the axle....

seperate the control arm from the wheel hub with a pickle fork....

pull axle out of the wheel hub by pushing it back and manuvering it out of the back of the hub.

get under the car and get a big socket extension....place the extension on the big piece of the axle closest to the trans...you wanna have the extension facing the wheel hub (outward from the trans) use a hammer and bang the axle outward it will tap out, some are harder than others (its held in with a snap ring)....or use a slide hammer (rent from auto store, much easier)...tranny fluid may spill out a lil bit this is ok.

clean up grease and do it all again in reverse order (make sure to pop the axle in you will hear the ring snap.)

ok, cool i have a pretty good idea of it now. and i only need to buy the new boot, clamps, bands and grease right? or are there any other parts that i need?

yes, but you will have to pull the shaft out to do that as well, I believe. This is also assuming that your bearings/joints are all OK....which you better inspect before installing new boot/grease

yea ill check them out when i do it i guess. so for now ill order the boots and grease

if you happen to pull the output shaft out of the trans dont!!! the ring clip will damage the oil slinger in the trans and your diff will blow to pieces...experience lad...good luck

ok nick, thanks for the advice. i think im just gonna buy a new axle though not a new boot just in case theres actually something wrong with the joint itself. wheres a good place to buy the new axle? i dont wanna buy a piece of **** thats gonna break in 6 months

how much do you want to pay? LOL
They have bullet proof shafts at sfphq but they are like 250 or 300 each...but they look like the best I have seen

dont wann pay a whole lot haha. hopefully no more than 100 each would be good. you dont have to change both at the same time right?

i think im just gonna order a passenger side "stage 1" axle from zzp. its suppose to be a stock replacement

yea just ordered it. zzp is usually good about shipping too so i wouldnt be suprised of it gets here monday and hopefully ill install it some time that week. gotta get it done before i go to the track nov 7th!

and? how long have you had it? how many miles? has it worked well for you? is there anything that you didn't like about it?

drivers side i replaced 3 years ago, passenger side last year because i have a hd diff now. worked out well

yep they are on the way. hoping the install goes smoothly, i think i just need to get a ball joint separator and one more tool

are you saying not to pry it out (crowbar method) i always thought that seemed too forceful.....im assuming tappin it out is a better method...
