• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Choosing the right cam

It'd be just fine....set the idle at 850~ you'd be golden. Billboost37 here ran 1.8's on an S1X...it was a pretty stout setup.

Also, Like I said you would just need to clearance the heads for it.

I'd also consider getting the heads ported and headers for maximum flow ability...because that thing will want to push some air with a valvetrain like that.

What will be the benifits of setting the idle at 850?
What will be a good price for milling and porting the heads?
I already have headers.
I think im leaning towards the s1x since it gives more power in the mid and low range because that is where my car is weak. What is your opinion on that?

You won't prematurely nuke your timing set.

Good is 800-1000.

Steal is below that, but then you might start to question quality of work.

Even at 800-1000, look for experience.

3800 is weak up top, has boatloads of low and mid.

Thank the torque converter flash and roots blower for that. As well as the short rods.

You need a tuner to change your idle. I run an s1x with stock heads and a 3.4 on a gen v. It has good power for the street.

If i milled my heads for a .600 lift for a cam and rocker set up, wouldnt it higher my compression?? Would it be okay if i just ran the cam for a while and did the rockers at a later time?

No, upping the compression would require milling the head surface down, getting thinner head gaskets...etc.

If you're milling the valve guides for a higher lift cam...ex: something bigger than the XP or S1X...then I'd just get a larger cam, ex: XPZ, IS3, IS4, or the TEP Race Cam...OR, running rockers on the XP or S1X...stock ratio is 1.6...some people run 1.7's and 1.8's...but it's up to you. I honestly would just save the money and run stock rockers, an XP or S1X...and leave the guides alone.

What would get me running 13s?

Nitrous?

A turbo?

Slicks?

Lots of things. That's a very vague question. You give me a budget, I'll tell you what would probably work the best.

The budget is unknown considering I'm planning on upgrading over time. Right now I have headers on my 2000 grand prix GT. Probably next month I will be doing a top swap, HAI, possibly ported TB, 42 injectors, and probably the xp cam. I plan on doing all that at one time. Not sure what size pulley to go with.

I'm so confused about how to drop pulleys and everyone else seems like it also. All of the reading I have done, I see nothing but MAYBE. What mods are required for certain pulleys? Keep in mind that I have the high compression engine. I have read HOW TO SAFELY MOD YOUR 3800 VEHICLE multiple times and I pick up that with intake done, full exhaust, headers, 42 injectors, xp cam, I'll be able to run a 3.4 or 3.25. There is still people second guessing that.

because we cant tell you. you need to try a pulley and scan. then try another and scan.

no one knows what pulley will do what for any car without scanning.

These cars aren't brand new anymore and vary greatly. We have guidelines but as bio said, you really have to find out for yourself and scan.

Click the link in my signature and read for starters...it has tons of info in there if you haven't checked it out yet and can point you in the right direction for a few things, especially tuners.

DHP, HPT, TinyTuner...etc.
