Check Engine Light Question

Hey guys I'm new here and just recently bought an 00 gtp the car runs good, but the check engine light came on. Well I hook it up to a cheaper scanner I have and said it was mass air flow. Well I cleared it and after a day or two same thing. So I took it in to local parts store and had them check it. Which also came up MAF so is this going be the prob really don't want spend the money on it if it aint going fix it, but that is the only thing coming up. Any Ideas or Suggestions please let me know. Thanks

Can of MAF cleaner at Autozone is $ 6.00 DO NOT USE CARB Cleaner or anything else.
Also if you have a K & N oiled air filter it will get oil on the MAF if you overoil the filter.

Ok well I will try that before I buy one. I don't mind spending the money to cure the issue but just don't want spend 200 on a part and it not take care of it.

I got that code a while ago. Something about maf inefficient flow or something. Engine would randomly stutter a little and sometimes completely stall on me, sound about right? I just replaced the maf sensor, took me like 30 seconds and been fine ever since. They are kind of expensive though, at like $150 after the core charge. I'm sure you can get it cheaper on rockauto, but depends on how bad the sensor is... if you can wait for shipping.

You said it runs good. When light comes on is anything different that you notice? Have you had car long enough to know about what your mpg rate is?

Not sure on the mpg the deal on dash says like 19 but car don't stall stutter or anything. Just light will come on but I aint had it but for about 2 weeks. But thank you all for being so helpful.

Had same code in my bonneville.

no stuttering but when i tapped on the sensor engine would die.

replaced it and i am now problem free

Ok guys I took the sensor out yesterday and cleaned it with maf cleaner and made sure not to bump the plates or wires what ever they are. But any ways the light went off for almost the whole day but came on again for the same thing later that night. I have already bought a new lifetime one but don't want put it in if it won't fix it. On some of the reading I've done the pcv can cause it sometimes? Is this true... But any how I want to know if you guys know of any other tips before I go put it in?

ya I know it won't hurt the car but if it don't fix it I'm out $200 and still stuck with the same problem. It does kinda seem like it is idling a little ruff, but other than that no issues yet.

check your fuse it's ign 1 or somthing like that under the hood then check and see what voltage you are getting to the maf the middle is the ground the yellow one should have around 5 v and the pink one should be around 12v. If you told us the code number for sure it would help. I'm guessing it is the p0102 code.

I believe that is what it is as far as code goes but it went back off earlier and has been off again every sincel. I am pretty sure it said that code and like maf low voltage or something but I don't have an ohm meter now but sure I could get one. What will that tell me though by testing the voltage...
