a kid i'm friends with has a mazda 3, not turbo or anything, and i don't know much about them. i've got a stock 99 gt, and we've been talking about lining them up somewhere just for fun ever since he pulled out to pass my old S10 on the way home one day and barely got me, i was just wondering what to expect.

mazda 3's lol , i played with one the other day on the way to work. Im supercharged of course but dude didnt have a chance.

it was the 4.3, i had some fun in it lol. but yeah, i'm just not sure really what to expect with the NA 3.8, it seems to be all noise above like 3500 rpms. i'd love to have a gtp

The NA 3800's still go OK until over 80 or 90 then it is slow going from what I remember if you are stock. But you should still take him no problem.

GTs are quick off the line but stock they have NO top end.
Start doing some of the cheap/simple mods like an intake.

maybe not 50, but it definitely loses a little after 70 or so. i really wanna do something to it but i just put 300 in it for brakes, a couple sensors, and a tire cause it blew. i gotta leave my job soon anyway for school, it's gonna be stock for a little bit longer. and yeah, i've been impressed with mazda ever since my friend took me from 60 to 130 in about a mile without downshifting in a turbo protege

Wait, 130 in a stock GT? Not possible, they limit at 108 or something like that, unless your talking KPH, not MPH.
