Bryant changes his mind faster than any woman...and some Cam Help...

Re: help after cam install :(

yea bill in the videos do u hear the grinding when i rev it up? and also i am not driving it. I know how to get the timing cover off i just wasnt sure if it was easy to do in the car. I will probably start tearing it apart friday. And yes i just dont like how a new tensioner already bit the dust. :(

Re: help after cam install :(

Bryant..all I can hear is what I mentioned. Not saying there's no grinding, but it's something that you can hear there and it's not well pronounced on the vid. No biggie. Don't start it to vid that again, check that shield and then pull the cover.

BTW the bolts you need for the balancer are M6 x 1.00 pitch thread. Approx 75mm long. Stop worrying about x or y and hop to it. I'm a hard azz when it comes to problems and solutions. All about progress... locals are happy to stop over for help, they also know there's a certain productivity level that's expected. :D

Re: help after cam install :(

well bill other people can hear it. Especially ont he vid form underneath the car u can hear it at idle and the vid from above the car u can hear when i rev it u have to listen carefully but the grindin is there lol. :p

And yes sir i have the puller just gotta get those bolts lol :p
i will hop to it bill. i have a period of 8-6 on saturday where i can get into my work to do it and hopefully i can get it done in that time :p

Re: help after cam install :(

Welll Brantley...what I'm saying is ... I didn't hear it. I listened closely and am trying to help ya out. :th_winking: All this means is it's not very loud in the vid or I'm extremely tired (which I am) and couldn't hear it.

Saturday ... Saturday? Today is Tuesday in case you were unsure. ... waiting til Saturday... it's a good thing you don't live near me. Saturday would be unacceptable.

Re: help after cam install :(

lol well i work everyday 8-5 lol. and saturday i dont work and i can have the shop to work on it :p lolol so......

Re: help after cam install :(

Then you have from 5pm til 8am the next day that you aren't at work. ... I'm 39 and most 20 yr olds can't keep up with my pace. Don't try to toss logic at me about being busy... I'm a machine that doesn't stop.

For example after a 9 hour day (similar to yours) I stopped at a wood supply house and ordered the sides to an island I'm building in the kitchen, got home changed, Home Depot for a few things, Costco for some steaks and stuff, home.. moved a pantry cabinet upstairs myself (24"x18"x84"), cut some shims, leveled and installed it. Buddy showed up and we swapped the fridges (because the color matched the rest of the appliances) that I had upstairs and downstairs. (beer/alcohol fridge in the walk in basement ..same level as garage). Looked at a car for an exhaust leak. Cooked steaks etc for dinner. Rewired an outlet, swapped a couple of three way switches, added a dimmer and a one way switch in a 4 gang box. Lined it up so well that the plate and it's 8 screws fit perfectly. Went into the attic and ensured the dimming switch wiring was isolated since it's not yet wired to lights. Cleaned up the house and prepped lunch for today. Prepped the clothes for this morning and did a few other things. That brought me to about 10pm. Bed by 11 and back at work by 6am.

Overall yesterday was a lazy and semi unproductive day.

soooo we've just blown almost the amount of time you could have gotten move of the pullies etc off and coolant drained. Timing cover is only another 15 minutes after that.

Re: help after cam install :(

bill i cant get into my work on sunday so its either do it all without a impact at home or do it on saturday at work wiht a impact haha :p

And so basically your sayin i could do it easily on saturday? lol

Re: help after cam install :(

And so basically your sayin i could do it easily on saturday? lol

I think you misunderstood me. I'm saying I could do it before dinner on a weekday. I'm not so sure you could or couldn't complete it in two days with air tools and a helper. :th_jester: I'm such a funny guy!

Re: help after cam install :(

lol u r just so dam mean :p lol but i got another question...

The bracket for the engine mount, When i unbolt that do i need to put a jack under the engine since im unbolting the engine mount? or will it be fine? lol

Re: help after cam install :(

You can remove your front engine cover with out jacking up the car, and having to remove the lower motor mount. I did, when I removed my double roller, for a double roller that I machined correctly, also added a machined oil pump cover too.

Need a picture? I took one, I can find it.

I think your chain tensioner bit the dust, or is going out.

If I were you, I would drain the oil, and see whats in it. I would also remove the oil filter, and cut it open and see whats in that too. It cant hurt to remove the front cover and see whats going on in there to be sure. Its only going to cost you a gasket, and some time.

Re: help after cam install :(

Listen to the man ^^... do it w/o pulling the engine etc and you'll be done much faster. No need to pull the mount, the this and that. You might get a couple of cuts or scrapes with less room, you will get done in much faster time though. You'll heal up and all will be well in the end.

Re: help after cam install :(

That's what you've been told. You need the three front oil pan bolts. They are possible with some work/finesse w/o pulling the mount.

Re: help after cam install :(

Like I said before Bryant...1/4" drive ratchet with a tiny 3/8" or 10mm...whatever the pan bolts are.

Re: help after cam install :(

3/8" ya noob

BTW Bryant...unless you work at a dealer, I'd have a tensioner on hand and the gasket for the timing cover.

don't pull the water pump to do this etiher. Just the 13mm bolts.

Re: help after cam install :(

im gunna pick up the tensioner tonight and the gasket as well.. Yea just the w/p pulley and the like 3 13mm bolts to get the cover off. correct?

Re: help after cam install :(

13 mm...

4 on the WP edges
One under each side at the lower rad hose height
then at least two more down each side...

Probably 10-12

Re: help after cam install :(

Call me a noob and you don't even know how many front cover bolts there are.

Hypocrite.

Re: help after cam install :(

Noob...I do know. 10.. And he'll have to pull the idler pulley or make a BillBoost access groove in it.
