Bryant changes his mind faster than any woman...and some Cam Help...

Re: help after cam install :(

1. That is a stock cam gear. I've never seen any stock gear that didn't look like that one in my picture. Which is why I asked where your's came from.

2. Blow me ... you didn't say enough for me to assume you knew about the plugs and turning harder etc. Please, be more descriptive and explain what the EFFFFF you are saying or I'm gonna have answers like that all dayyyyyyyy long. :th_king-evil: When you say seems..do you have any 3800 engine turning experience to compare to? Because the hamsters you deal with daily are going to be different. :th_laugh-lol3:

3. If the teeth are rough, get some macro mode going and get us a picture that shows us something. You might as well used the Hubbell telescope for your picture. Saying crank, then talking about cam, saying rough and then showing beveled normal edge... I'm good at helping out, just gotta get you to say the right things to help paint the picture.

4. Your service manager just called ya..they got another hamster in bay 3 for you.

Re: help after cam install :(

yes bill i understand u cant see it very muich and u cant feel it thru a picture lol. But what i am saying is that every tooth on the cam gear is rough. i know its tapered like its supposed to be but to the touch they r all rough and feel like there were starting to be ground up. also think it could be a possiblity the cam could eb walking...?

Re: help after cam install :(

Oil pressure? Lined up cam bearing oil holes during install? And only the Cam gear teeth feels rough, or the crank gear also?

Re: help after cam install :(

i have really good oil pressure. none lost there. my oil psi is 50psi at idle. And yes i lined up the holes. Only the cam gears feel rough. The crank gear teeth feel fine

Re: help after cam install :(

Loaded question. Were the cam gear teeth feeling rough when they were installed? It's loaded because I'm sure no one would have checked that.. until the noise.

Where did you get that cam gear, it's not a factory gear for a 3800 to my knowledge. Every single 3800 I've pulled apart had a gear that looked identical to what I posted in the pic. I've never seen one that looked like yours.

Re: help after cam install :(

i do not rememeber the teeth being rough at all. plus i have my old one that i toke off in the first place and the teeth were not rough. The gears and timing chain r from advance auto. Korey (kfish) got them for me. They r not factory they r some from advance auto

Re: help after cam install :(

Ok, that explains the look. Can you get some measurements from block to cam/chaiin and block to crank/chain, that's about the only way to check if the alignment is off. That may cause them to burr.

Either way..I'd say likely that's an issue and it's worth while putting a stock chain and gears on it. The stock gears typically don't wear. I'd reuse the orginals with a new chain.

Re: help after cam install :(

Not sure on how far it should be. I'd expect a little movement from the cam and that likely they are within a close spec.

Re: help after cam install :(

well as im sure u know the crank gear just slide on, But the gear on the cam should be able to move a little bit? or the whole cam itself?

Re: help after cam install :(

The cam tends to move a little as you are installing it, the thrust plate, balancer drive gear and cam gear. After it's all installed there's probably a couple thousandths of play to allow it to spin freely. That's the little movement I'm talking about. The crank gear should be sitting solidly against the shoulder of the crank.

Take your measurements that way and holler when you get them. I'd expect them to be darn close.

Re: help after cam install :(

yea i kow mike when i ahve the bolt in. And yes bill when i get home ill get those measurements and let ya knowwww

Re: help after cam install :(

I was just making sure he doesnt have a ton of movement. But i agree with bill use the stock crank gear, and cam gear, and get a new chain and Tensioner

Re: help after cam install :(

And..before you install them. Take a close look to see if the cam or crank gear have anything different or the teeth are even a couple thou different in spacing.

Re: help after cam install :(

yes i will make sure they r the same and check it all out :) cuz if its still doing htis stupid noise i will blow this dam car up lol

Re: help after cam install :(

No you won't. You'll figure it out and that's all there is to it. I'm hoping it's a manfacturing defect of the gears/chain.
