Andesmint's 2000 GT.. BROKEN AGAIN!!

:th_nervous:Well i guess i'll give some background on the car to start with. My step dad bought it for me at an auction for 2000 bucks. Long story short he paid way to much as the car had a "tick". A few months later the motor blew completely and kept ticking and clicking and popping for about 5 minutes after we shut it off haha. Idk exactly what went wrong, because I just didn't know anything about cars at the time. Sooooo, since the motor blew we paid a shop to put a new one in. That one blew two days later... I didn't even hot rod it. I was going 25 down a dirt road and it basically just decided it didn't want to live. So the shop put in another motor with only 60k on it which was great because the first replacement motor had 85k on it.

So, now the car had a good motor... but it still looked like dogs A$s. The clear on the hood was gone, it had hail damage, front right fender had a huge dent, it was maroon (no offense to maroon lovers... i just don't like the color maroon alright!), and well the rockers were missing. So i got to work fixing all of that. Here is the only picture i have of that process...

aaand here is what she looks like now

this one shows the color better. It's a gm color. Dark ming metalic blue

After painting it i drove it for about a year before blowing the LIM gaskets. That's pretty much when i started learning about how to work on cars besides body work. I ended up rebuilding the whole top end, new water pump, rack and pinion, replaced the tie rods in the rear, new UIM and the list goes on. This was all done in my garage with the help of some friends. I also did an alignment on it in my schools auto tech shop.

Well that's got to be enough background. time to talk about more current matters.

Got an L-67 top end from the junkyard for 100 bucks!

Nasty looking M90

All cleaned up =)

I don't really think the other parts are interesting yet so ill post pics of those as i get them cleaned up... Oh yeah I also got a set of Stainless ZZP exhaust manifold off of the same car for 50 bucks! scoooore. I decided to polish them up quick with a compound and a buffer wheel on an angle grinder. took about ten minutes haha.

Before

After

And here is a pic of the doner car

I'm hoping to get the top end in the car over Christmas break. I just need the gaskets at this point I believe. The headers are already on my car and ill try to post pics of them later. Much more to come!

Current mods: HAI, ZZP stainless headers, magnaflow mufflers ( I actually like this set up it's super quiet but with a low low note), added a HUD and a DIC, got rid of the fabric interior and replaced it with the leathery graphite one, 04+ needles

In the works: hand porting the L-67 heads, LIM, Supercharger outlet and intake... yaaay topswap soon to come! Reptile PCM with the shift button doodad

Re: 2000 GT "budget build"

Thanks, I was very happy with how it turned out. definitely made all of the hard work worth it. Most annoying part was fabbing new rockers for it. and yeah! i couldn't believe it when i saw them at the JY. I went there looking for a window rubber and found them. wasn't easy to get the off the car considering it had no wheels on it... thankfully there are plenty of those scissor jacks that come with cars laying around haha.

Re: 2000 GT "budget build"

It's when you least expect it...that's when those cool finds pop up. Like the time I scored Roof Rails for $4.

Re: 2000 GT "budget build"

junk yard as well? i was hoping to find a set at the yards but no luck on those. I'm not complaining though. maybe ill buy some once im done with the motor haha. BTW I read through your GTO thread the other day! sexy car. i'm jealous of that V8 haha

Re: 2000 GT "budget build"

I like how far the cars coming along seems like you know your stuff! Subbed for moar and I fully enjoy the color you painted the car

Thanks, yes, found the Roof Rails in a Louisiana junk yard, when I paid for them, I asked, how much for these "trim parts" haha. Luckily my new ride thread is short, the last one for my Gold GTP was 88 pages LOL.

Thanks, I've actually learned alot of what I know from the forum. I'll be working on the other parts and posting pics throughout next week. And thanks I never thought choosing a paint color would be difficult but i really had to scratch my head over it. I love how it looks now

yeah I don't think I'd have read through 88 pages lol. I'm sure if you update it alot and actually get around to some mods you'll get up there again with the GTO. but I respect that you are keeping it fairly stock! the spoiler was a good decision. I like how it looks. And I do that all the time at the yard, just try to dumb down the name and play it off like its nothing special.

Re: 2000 GT "budget build"

Alright guess i got the chance to get back online before i thought i would. Since I'm in no rush to get the parts on the car ATM (waiting till christmas break) I'm taking a lot of time to make everything nice and purdy. Not exactly sure what paint the paint code is for the color i'm using but it is some sort of metalic red I had laying around. trying to keep it cheap so I thought i'd use that for the parts that don't get too hot. I also really love the contrast between the bright red and the dark blue color of my car. i think it'll look nice and pop once its all done.

So whover had these valve covers last tried to do the "super smooth valve cover" mod by filling in the lines with bondo... they looked like s**t so I scraped it out of the groves with a pic tool and sanded the rest off. I don't have a before pic but this is how i've painted them both.

So the engine color scheme is black and red. deal with it hehe. Another thing you should know about me is I had the look of cast aluminum. so thats all getting painted black

Even painted the LIM. I know i have some overspray in the temp sensor threads. ill clean that out with thinner later.

Heads are just black. I know, boring. but the fancy red color wont stand up to the heat and i din't want some random red color on the heads that didn't match so the obvious answer was blaaaack

Pop quiz, how should i finish the TB? red? black? or try to polish/clean it up? let me know. here's how it looks raw and that just wont work.

Let me know what you guys think... just try not to hurt my feelings haha jkjk. More to come soon. next set of pics will be of the interior i believe

Re: 2000 GT "budget build" *NEW PICS OF TOP END PARTS*

I think you should do the TB red, same color as the snout on the blower and fuel rails.

Why?

Because if you look at the picture is goes red snout, then polished case. If you painted the TB red, you'd have "Red - Polished - Red." If you see what I'm saying. Would look pretty slick.

Re: 2000 GT "budget build" *NEW PICS OF TOP END PARTS*

Looks cool man, keep up the good work.Did I catch a MCM reference in there?

Blaaaaaaaack! Lol.

Thats exactly what I was thinking too. I'll try to take care of that tomorrow!

Yes you did haha. im a big mighty mods fan. unfortunately my car doesn't pass the shoe test... maybe ill work on that too. and thanks aceofspades

Re: 2000 GT "budget build" *NEW PICS OF TOP END PARTS*

Neither of mine pass the shoe test either.Getting chopped by a 4x4 status grand prix may actually be more humiliating tho.

Re: 2000 GT "budget build" *NEW PICS OF TOP END PARTS*

Not a bad point haha. Lowering would prolly be the last thing I'll do

Re: 2000 GT "budget build" *NEW PICS OF TOP END PARTS*

i thinks it looks ridonculously AWESOME i live the m90 the way it is

The blower housing will stay as is. Far to much time invested in polishing just to paint it haha. I'll be painting the throttle body. And thanks although idk which part you are referring to as "ridiculously awesome" haha :)

Re: 2000 GT "budget build" *NEW PICS OF TOP END PARTS*

Throttle body is in the works. sorry about the crappy phone pic. should be finished with more pics posted later tonight!
