Andesmint's 2000 GT.. BROKEN AGAIN!!

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT topswap complete! having issues

i have another issue now too. I think the starter took a crap on me. I checked all of the fuses, swaped out the relays (i had a couple extras i grabbed from the JY), checked battery and its connections and all of that was good. so i'm thinking starter. i need to get these issues sorted out so i can enjoy my damn car... lol

Yea...if it's not one thing, it's another, LIFE! I'm sure you will get it all sorted out though.

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT topswap complete! having issues

Alright. got the starter, AL104's, and a fuel filter. guess i'll just crack a beer and get to work

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT topswap complete! having issues

ok, so i tested the started once i got it out and it still seemed to be fine, but to be sure i installed the new one and it still isnt cranking. Think its a bad ignition cylinder? something else? any ideas would help.

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT topswap complete! having issues

nvm scotty helped me solve the issue. ignition harness thingy mabob is bad

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

So, I changed the fuel filter and put in brand new AL104 plugs. The surging is now ALOT better. however im still seeing about 5 KR under WOT. so i took the belt off and then the KR was gone. I tested the BBV and it is good. sooo unless there is anything else to try I assume its time to buy some parts? i'm running a stock DP and cat with the weld in shorty section so it mates with the stainless headers properly. Should i try getting a 3" TOG style DP instead? i've heard a better DP can help with KR. or would 1.9 rockers be a better investment? both? I just want to kill this KR before it kills my motor. let me know what you guys think. thanks again for all of the help

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

I wouldn't run the stock downpipe with headers, it might be causing a restriction and could be causing your KR.

In this case...both will help. The bigger downpipe more than the rockers. Like I said before, top swap tunes are VERY difficult to do over the mail, and in all it's kinda nice that it *only* has 5 degrees. The new DP may get rid of most of it, but maybe not all. PM me if you want to.

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

Reptile, I am by no means placing blame on the PCM. You've done a great job. Thank you

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

when i did my U bend delete it cleared up 3* of kr.

rockers cleared up 5 more. i was at 8 stock, rockers and u bend delete i was at zero.

added headers and got kr again. lol

well **** lol. i already got rid of my stock ones hehe jkjk. Id like some rockers if i could find em cheap maybe

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

Do both, but ideally the DP needs to go with that dumbass U-bend.
I ordered the DP with Ubend delete yesterday. hoping it'll get here friday. Unfortunately I can't afford rockers right now unless a cheap set goes up in the FS section so those might have to wait for the next paycheck.

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

If you are in the market for rockers, contact GMR Badass. He has some rockers there a while back. Don't know if he sold all of them or not.

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

I'd cam it as well.

Although I would have done it when everything was apart.

Because then "X" cam with whatever setup you're running would probably be knock free on that pulley.

Then again, tuning a car with all those add-ons without being there in person probably doesn't help, either. You can always get close...but man, every car is different...I'd always expect some sort of something needing ironing out.

Brian has tuned my cars in the past, and we've tuned plenty of locals. They run pretty good from what I've seen.

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

I've considered a cam... and if it comes down to it and i really need it then i will. but im going to try to get rid of the kr with a DP and a set of used rockers first.. I'm not going for a crazy high powered build. just more pep than i had before. worst case scenario i'll just sell the rockers and cam it if the current plan fails. The reasons i'm not going straight for a cam is A. money B. work involved C. may not need it and D. I've never done something like that before and i have nobody to help me. so i would have to do an assload of research before i felt comfortable attempting it

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

^ cam helps remove KR that's essentially the whole point. More intake. More exhaust with the right flow mods. Basically headers and upgraded springs and rockers and a tune. No KR.

Re: Andesmint's 2000 GT Battling KR

I have 1.9 Harland Sharp Rockers and love them. If you were to get Rockers, I'd definitely spend the extra coin to get Rollers rather than modded stock. Such as, Yella Terra, SLP, Harland Sharp. Not only should you browse this forum, but join some Grand Prix Facebook Groups (If you haven't already) and post a Wanted To Buy on there. Usually there is always someone who has what you need for sale.

These rockers with my set of ported heads, allows for me to run a 3.4 on Gen V with an 11.2 AFR at 15* timing KR free. And my has always car had KR issues. When I was stock, I would consistently see 7* or more.

I get where you want Rockers > Cam. I'm obviously on the same boat as you. I totally agree, that cam will yield you way more power, much better buy for the money ad so on.. But personally, I just wanted rockers. People have their own opinions on how they want to mod their own car.

With my mods + a full size intercooler + e85 down the road, I'd love to see what kind of power I will make on a stock cam.
