Aftermarket Heated Seat kit

I'm tossing around the idea of maybe getting one of the heated seat kits for the passanger side seat of my 99. Its got leather seats if that is an important piece of information.
A.) has anyone done of these or heard anything about them?
B.) are they somewhat easy to install?
C.) are they safe?
Here is the link to the one I originally looked at. I haven't looked into a whole lot, probably won't happen until closer to next winter now, but its an idea.

My 05 Impala had them when I bought it. Driver side works great but passenger side doesn't. I bought a kit for that side and plan on putting it in this week. I also thought about putting one in my 02 GP passenger seat.
 
It's typically cheaper and easier to go pick up the parts from a GP at the junkyard. You need the leather to pull the heater off, the swithc and the module it all connects to under the seat. From there it's easy to do.
 
So, If I got lucky and found a leather heated driver seat on a gp at the junk yard, would that work for the passanger side?
I realize the power seat functions wouldnt work, but could it be rigged up to sit on the non-power rails and wired to work?
Or did any 97-03 gp's have dual heated front seats?

Like I said, I havent really researched them so I could probably learn more when I do that, but I figured I'd see if anyone had any personal experience with them on here.
 


Whatya do is bring a razor knife and cut the leather off the seat. Then grab the wiring/module/switch.

Use the razor knife or seam ripper to get the heaters off the leather and then pull your passenger seat out and lift the leather. Slide the elements under and rehook the leather. Mount the module to the bottom of the seat and snake the wiring (two wires) from the switch to the seat. Hook the power to the power seat connector under the seat. Install the switch/wiring and you are done.
 
I just checked car-part.com and it looks like the seats are $150-200. I'm thinking of doing what BillBoost mentioned. I'll check some local yards. I think my wife would like a heated seat in the winter time.

Danielle, what part of Indina are you in. We live 2 hours straight east of Monroeville, IN. If I find a couple local, and can get a deal, it may be worth the drive for you. Let me know if that interests you.
 
I'm just south of Fort Wayne.
I haven't checked into it much more, it kinda died in the next to do list as money is rather tight right now. We have a take a part junk yard here with a lot of gp's so i've heard, maybe i'll get lucky if i ever get there to check them out
 
side note.. did the 04+'s comes with heat at all? my wife is cold all day everyday and i know she would enjoy heat
 
Mad Monkey: My friend has a 04 gp gt and it has dual heated leather. im pretty sure they all came with duals.
Id LOVE to do an interior seat swap to the 04+ (if the $ deal is right)
When i was looking for my old G6, they even had heated cloth in some of them...i thought that was pretty nice
 


\nice, ive got cloth, however i was driving around in a 2012 sentra a while back that had dual heated cloth.. im sure it can be done with the 04+'s

I had a 05 G6GT and had to part with it due to $$ issues. So I decided on the 99.
Its cheaper payments and has been a good car, hoping it'll get me 5 years or so.

I'm really considering doing the seat swap instead of messing with the passanger deal. There was a beautiful set of 04+ leather on craigslist about 20 miles from me right after I got the 99...boyfriend kept showing me the link and i was like no, what do i need those for..then i found this site and how easy the swap was...and then they were gone :(

So if I get the seat and the switch, I'll have all I need to make this happen for my passenger side? Nothing buried under the dash or any relay I will need or anything like that? Planning to head to the salvage yard today before the rain hits us.
 


Cut the leather on the outter edge of the seat stitching. The heated seat elements are more toward the interior and you won't get them. Then when you go to pull the leather off, lift the seat bottom piece from the front and seperate it from teh cushion. Careful not to hurt the wire from the heater (back right of the seat cushion area) and pull the cushion off the frame. Then you can see under the seat and disconnect the green and black connectors for the seat covers. Follow that back to the module that's clipped to the seat frame and take the module and the wiring back to the main seat connector. This will give you pins to add into your passenger side connector to make it look factory. Now pull the seat back cover, and the heated switch with about 5 inches of wiring and off you go.

Says Regal, but all the colors are the same with GM. Follow it and you'll have a passenger seat in no time.

Now..if you wanna mod your switch panel, that'll take a little more work. It's very possible though.
 
I bought the entire seat assembly and switch from the console. ($50) I also got the "pigtail" for the harness that plugs into the heat switch (about 6" of wires. I'll look at your schematic over the weekend and see if I can follow it.

I'm planning to fab up the switch cover to appear as an OEM part - no worries on that. The wiring is what I'm most concerned about at this point.

The wiring is about 5 wires.

ignition to the switch
ground to the switch
illumination to the switch
power to the module (already under seat)
Ground to the module (already under seat)

Then you have the turn on wire from switch to module and the hi/lo wire to the module from switch.
